Bells

So a while ago I planted a bell tree with a golden shovel. It grows and grows and grows. I go on vacation for 2 days. I come back, and there's no bells in it! (Even though there's a tree where I planted my 10,000 bells!) So what's the problem here? Do I have to be there the day the tree is fully grown or something? (Well, I'm out 10,000 bells...) >:(

I know 10,000 bells isn't much but I plan to plant 99,000 bells and I don't want this to happen...

Thanks.

There's a random chance of bells appearing, they won't appear all the time. Also there's a maximum of 90,000 bells per tree.

If you plant 10,000 bells there's only a 10% chance of the tree actually producing bells, and if it does produce bells your only get 30,000 bells.

If you plant 30,000 bells there's a 30% chance of a tree producing bells and you'll get 90,000 bells.

If you plant 90,000 bells there's a 90% chance of a tree producing bells and you'll get 90,000 bells back, seeing as the maximum per tree is 90,000 bells.

This may not be 100% correct, not sure if they've changed it from AC:WW or not.
