I've been wondering for a while how much experience players have had with AC games before New Horizons ... For the sake of the poll, I'm not including Amiibo Festival, Happy Home Designer/Paradise or the true originals: the Japanese-only games ...

I'd also love to hear your experiences with other games and any opinions you have, on the games or the poll itself ... I don't want to start a "Which Game is Best" debate, just hear about your AC life ...

Bonus question: Did you ever buy merchandise?

i've played almost all of them except from the original gamecube one! if i'd had a gamecube i'm sure i would've played that too, though. i think i played wild world first, then progressed onto let's go to the city (which i think might actually be my favourite of all the games, if not for the gameplay just for the sheer nostalgia and good vibes it gives me when i think about it) and then of course NL and NH. i never got *too* into pocket camp but i definitely dipped my toe in - i think it's a really cute game but i just don't have the same connection to it as i do to the console games.
as for merchandise, i've never bought official merch (unless you count amiibo cards) but i do now have an animal crossing travel mug so.. big win

I've played everything from GameCube onward. I have amiibo cards and figures, but that is it for merchandise.

I absolutely adored ACGC. It was so different from anything else I had played. Wild World was fun, although there were aspects of it I didn't care for (grass erosion!). City Folk was probably my least favorite, although I can't really say why. It was fun, but I didn't gel with it, like I had others. NL was when I started to get back into the game. Despite how much I enjoyed it, it was easy to put down. Then I'd have the guilt about which villagers I lost while not playing. Pocket Camp was fun, in the beginning. I always felt it was just a fill-in until NH was released, and the fact that you didn't really gain any friendship with the villagers was a bit of a bummer. Still, it served its purpose. NH is probably my favorite. It reminds me a lot of GC, but the increased customization makes it so much fun. For the last 2+ years, I've had a blast transforming my island from an uninhabited wilderness into something that is uniquely me.

It makes me wonder what the next evolution will bring.

My first animal crossing was new leaf around December 2013. I didn’t really stray from Sony my whole life so I didn’t even know they existed. I’ve been hooked since. It makes me sad that I’ve only experienced two of them, but maybe one day I’ll play the others? Though I heard new leaf did what wild world and city folk did, just better. But I can’t say that for myself.

Oh and I played pocket camp too. lol. I didn’t see that one.

I first encountered Animal Crossing when I visited a friend's house back in 2002. They were playing Animal Crossing, the GameCube game, when I arrived and I liked what I saw. I got a copy soon afterward so we could play it together when we visited each other. I played it on and off for a few years thereafter. Good times.

The next game in the series that I played was City Folk. I wasn't aware of Wild World's existence until I found these forums, so as far as I knew, City Folk was the long awaited next installment. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it. I hated being forced to play with the Wiimote since I prefer to use the GameCube controller with my Wii games whenever possible, I didn't like the camera view, and I never got far enough to actually afford anything worthwhile. I quit pretty fast.

I don't know why, after my disappointment with City Folk, that I gave New Leaf a chance. Maybe it was just so I could expand my 3DS game library. Whatever the case, I'm glad I did, because New Leaf is to this day my favorite installment in the series. While there are some things that New Horizons does that I wish was present in the earlier games (like being able to pick skin color and black hairstyles for example), New Leaf has so many things in its favor for me that I don't know if any game they ever make again will beat how much I enjoy New Leaf's offerings.

The next and final game, as of today, that I've gotten from this series is New Horizons. It doesn't beat New Leaf for me, but I still enjoy it for its own reasons.

I would've been interested in Amiibo Festival if you didn't have to fork out cash to get the amiibo to actually play the game; it looked fun enough, but I wasn't interested in paying $13 or whatever a piece for all of the figures, so I didn't bother. Have thus far not needed a smart phone, so incapable of playing Pocket Camp, but I don't know that I'd want to. I love some of the furniture and clothes featured, but I don't know if that's enough to keep me invested. Especially since I wouldn't pay for in-game stuff.

I'm considering purchasing Wild World on the Wii U's eShop before it closes since I never played it and it eliminates the need to play with other people to progress in the game that was present in the original DS release. I haven't 100% decided to yet, going to look into it some more before making a decision.

As for merchandise?

- If it counts, there was one of those game guides for the GameCube Animal Crossing game. I really liked it back then as a kid since it featured all of the different villagers you could get, so I could see who all might show up.

- I own some amiibo cards, if that counts. I might try to track down Blathers and Celeste amiibo figures if they're not to expensive nowadays since birds are my favorite types of creatures, owls are cool, and I like both of these characters.

- I was going through a rough time late last year, and a couple friends sent me a K.K. Slider stuffed animal and one of those Bell bags that I think was from pre-ordering New Horizons.

I've been playing since the first one!

I still remember seeing the commercials for it as a kid and being like "I want tot play THAT!" XD

The commercials were so silly...

My first was the GameCube one back in 2002 when I was 6 years old haha. Loved that game so much, it had a lot of mystery too me as a kid, plus the NES games were awesome to play on it. Really glad my older brother saw the commercials for it and wanted it, otherwise who knows if I ever would have played any AC game.

Also had Wild World but for some reason never really got that much into it, but I loved City Folk and played the heck out of that.

I've actually never played New Leaf as I just never owned a 3DS unfortunately, and I've tried Pocket Camp but just wasn't really my thing.

And now obviously play New Horizons still and love it.

I’ve played all of them except for a spin-off games. I think those games are just silly. That’s just my personal opinion, though. I just prefer the mainline games.

I have played all the Animal Crossing game except those released in Japan, Amiibo Festival, and Pocket Camp.

for me, I've played HHD/New Leaf, Wild World, and a bit of Pocket Camp (though I haven't played much - didn't really care for the whole gacha thing and just didnt' appeal to me)

only one i haven't played is the og japanese version; as it currently stands i like all of them except amiibo festival and pocket camp tbh.

new leaf is still probably my favorite ac game overall while city folk has my favorite artstyle for the series... but man do i loathe using the wii remotes :(

in terms of merch i buy what i can like amiibo cards, plushies, etc. i'm still super disappointed there isn't an official plushie for every villager; i would kill for bianca/lolly/poppy plushies

I started with Animal Crossing New Leaf but after getting hooked as a small 5 year old (yes I realized that the first time I played was actually March of 2014) I recieved many AC things as gifts. I remember getting Amiibo Festival on my birthday and I STILL LOVE AMIIBO FESTIVAL! Its definitely horrible but fun to me 🤗 I bought City Folk with my own money and the others as the years went on. I have played EVERY Animal Crossign game except the original two Japanese ones.... or technically 3 if you count the N64 version. I HAVE however held and looked through the manual of Dobutsu No Mori + and E+ because I saw them at a thrift store! Bonus Answer: Yes I own way to many pieces of AC merch. (All the 16 amiibo figures, currently more than/around 397 amiibo cards, my Bunnie Plushy, All manuals and boxes of the AC games, a Sticker Book, 3 Mini mocchi plushies [Tom Nook, an Apple, a Leaf], New Leaf themed 3DS carry Case, Happy Home Designer Carry Case, a few sets of AC cover plates, and more. I am too lazy to go through the rest lol but I definitely have alot of obscure stuff too that I havent listed! AC is one of the only things I collect and buy so thats why I have so much.

The first game I played was City Folk, I didn't even know Animal Crossing existed until I got this as one of the game fly rentals. It ended up not being a rental because I LOVED this game and never sent it back. It felt good to just relax in a town, hang out with my animal friends, and go fishing. All the games I had back then were like Mario and party games so I've never seen anything like Animal Crossing. I ended up telling my parents all about it. I don't mind using Wii remotes but my first Nintendo console was the Wii so maybe I'm just used to it.

Then when I got a 3DS for Christmas one of the first games I got was New Leaf. I liked all the clothing options and was the first Animal Crossing game I actually played online (with a friend from school who also played). I would constantly watch videos on youtube giving tips on the game and cool tricks I could do. I liked the public works projects and being the mayor of the town. I don't have my original town anymore since my brother formatted my 3DS but I still have the dream address for it (well I remember the name to find the dream address).

Since I was a full on fan at this point my parents got New Horizons for me the day it came out for my birthday. It was also the first game I got to play on launch day! I like all the customization and being able to put furniture outside. I love the fact that they made it easier to change clothes so no more going through all my storage and going just off names. Although I don't like how the shop doesn't upgrade and that the game just stopped updating after only 2 years (and a good chunk of updates were just stuff we had in older games.) I like all the games I've played about equally (but I'm a bit biased towards City Folk since it was the first one I played.)

I haven't played Wild World or Population Growing yet but I did play some spin offs, Amiibo Festival and HHD. Amiibo Festival was ok but I was just disappointed that It wasn't a main line Animal Crossing game for the Wii U. It was also a rental but I didn't feel like keeping it like I did with City Folk. I got HHD and I liked it, I ran out of space on my 3DS sd card after installing Alpha Sapphire, Swapnote, Swapdoodle, Flipnote Studio 3D, and all the free badges I got from the Badge Arcade that I had no space to install a update for HDD. It's still playable but my main street is very laggy. I played Pocket Camp for a while and even paid for the Happy Helper plan for about two months after the free trial. Had to quit after I noticed that leaf tickets go quickly and when I was tempted to also buy the fashion plan just for a chance to get a Wii U from the fortune cookies.

As for merchandise I have 2 Animal Crossing cups, the sticker book, a journal/ planner, small backpack, controller, and some amiibo.

I’ve played wild world, city folk, pocket camp, and new horizons. I want to play new leaf, but I don’t have a 3ds and don’t know where to get one that is new and not super expensive.

I've played since New Leaf came out, I honestly had no clue that AC existed before that, which is weird because it's such an awesome series and so fun but I guess I was just primarily into Pokémon games most of my life and and focused on those, but around 2012 I started branching out and finally trying other games, New Leaf was one of the ones I bought and tried and I fell in love. After that I bought Wild World and played some of that, and I have New Horizons and have been playing since it came out. Oh almost forgot, I also got Happy Home Designer for the 3DS when it came out and played that

I love New Leaf for it's soundtrack and for getting me into AC, plus it opened me up to other relaxing life sim like games which I wasn't aware of before playing it. Plus it was a lot of fun, first game I put over 100 hours into. Something about Wild World is very charming, I'm not sure why, it's kind of difficult to play especially with all the improvements since then but it's still fun to check into sometimes. New Horizons is just amazing, I've put 450 hours into it and I still have so much to do. I love collecting all the different items and trying to complete my catalog (which I'm nowhere near doing, I play kind of slow paced and don't time travel) Happy Home Designer was fun but at the time I was playing it I wasn't much into interior decorating so I didn't really play it too much. Happy Home Paradise really got me into interior design, it's just so fun. Maybe someday I'll go back and play Happy Home Designer.

I've played all NA released AC games and spinoffs. Watched some Japan game play on Youtube and streams.
Pocket Camp was played for a short time. It took too long to load or never loaded on the Tablet.

Purchased Toys, puzzles, calendar, clothing, amiibo cards/figures and all the Guidebooks.

I've played all of them (currently own all of them including happy home designer) and I've been playing since January 2008 😁

The original GameCube game, City Folk, New Leaf, Pocket Camp, and New Horizons.

I would be interested in giving Wild World a try at some point, since I've seen a lot of people list it as their favorite in the series, but it's not a big priority for me right now.

I first got into the Animal Crossing from playing New Leaf, I came across the game while on YouTube and saw someone was filming their game play on the nintendo ds and thought it looked so cute so I had to get it. I have been playing it everyday since New Horizons came out :) I have also played a little bit of pocket camp in the few months before NH came out.

The very first AC game I played was Wild World. I really didn't know anything about the series at the time, so played it very blindly. I was looking for alternatives to Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons), and WW is one of the recommended games I've seen. I never really got into it and I think I've only played it for a week(?)

Then came New Leaf, which really got me hooked. I guess I can say that NL was really my first AC game. I never played it consistently as much as I do NH. But I've sank several hundreds of hours into the game. Though it still didn't beat my Tomodachi Life play time record.
