The first AC game I had was the Gamecube game. I just liked the animals on the cover back then. I've since owned all of the main games, but I haven't been interested in the spin-offs. I think the only one I was disappointed in was Wild World - the loading times drove me insane, and I remember only playing it for a few weeks before I got tired of it. I played Pocket Camp for a while, but eventually it stopped support for my tablet and I never bothered to re-install it on my phone.

I own a few bits of merchandise - an Elvis strap figure that I got from a gacha machine, a mouse mat that came with the Official Nintendo Magazine, a DX UFO Catcher Tom Nook plush from the movie (at ¥200, I wasn't gonna pass that up), and a couple of other smaller plushies.

I've played all of them except Amiibo Festival (which we all wanna forget exists). I've now technically played the Gamecube game but only for an hour or so.

I started playing with wild world, then new leaf was the game I had put the most hours into until new horizons came along. I briefly played pocket camp, but it’s by far my least favorite of all the games I played.

I’ve played them all and I have a hard time deciding which one is my favorite.

Like, New Horizons just has so much design capabilities that I love spending time on. The small details, the HHP, the new stuff like it is a solid game.

However, AC on Gamecube is just amazing. Like there’s not TONS of things you can do as far as the land and the decor. There are less fish and bugs, and you definitely don’t make as much off the bugs and fish. However, the dialogue with the villagers is chefs kiss good. Like unbelievably good. To me, that makes the game worth it for me.

There’s been so many QOL things added to the later games NH being the most accommodating for QOL things. im AC on GC there is an extremely limited space for inventory. It’s insanely fun though. The things your villagers say will destroy you. They’re mean, adorable, hilarious, and you can play all those fun nintendo games on there!

I've played all of them except for the Japanese only releases. I have amiibo festival, but haven't really played it. Out of all of them, I'd have to say my favs are New Horizons, New Leaf, and the GC version, in that order.

New Horizons is 1st, because while it may not have some features of the others, its player customizations are top notch. I love being able to choose my skin tone and the many different hairstyles. Also, feature-wise, it's very close to the GC version. It really is a place where you can just go about your life and relax. I don't like the breaking tools along with some other minor complaints, but overall NH is my favorite AC game so far.

New Leaf got a lot right, too. For me New Leaf was a blend of every other game before it done better. Plus the introduction of swimming changed the series for the best.

The GC version has the best hourly music and villagers, imo. Being able to turn the meanest villager in your town into a friend was always so much fun, even if the villagers were a bit brutal.

As far as merchandise, I own all the amiibo cards and figures. Some might say its a waste, but honestly, I'm really proud of my collection, because I started at a time where I thought it would be impossible for me to finish, only to end up completing it. Plus the fact that I got half of them for free doesn't make it much of a waste for me. ❤️

City Folk and New Leaf. Want to try older entries tho…

Old AC games have a something that new ones don't (in my opinion).

Wow, thanks everyone for your responses !! I wasn't expecting so many replies, and such great stories ... Keep them coming !!

The poll results are interesting too, not what I was expecting :D

I've played them all except the Japan-exclusive releases. I love all the main games and play them all every now and again for different reasons; each of them have something unique that I always end up missing. I can't really choose a favorite because there are features I like best from each game, and enjoy them all a lot. I will say I have played the most of New Horizons, New Leaf, and Wild World, mostly because I prefer handheld consoles. I'm thinking of starting a new town in either Wild World or City Folk again soon. Currently, the only game I'm playing regularly is New Horizons.

I only played Pocket Camp before New Horizons, which I don't really count as a "real" game, and I definitely feel like I missed out on so much! I'd been playing Pocket Camp for a long time, so I knew a lot of the villagers.

I'd love to go back and play through some of the older games, but I'd probably start with New Leaf, because I've hear so many good things! I'd like to see the difference in dialogue, villagers moving whenever they want and putting down their houses where they like!

I started with Wild World and then played New Leaf and Pocket camp when they came out.

I played the gamecube ac, then city folk and then pocket camp. I never played new leaf.
As for merchandise- yes! I have some animal crossing stuff, especially like the character key chains.

I have played all of the main titles except the original GameCube game. Wild World was so cool and fun, and I remember thinking at the time that it was such an amazingly designed game. Then City Folk... oh gosh that game was just such a huge step up in terms of graphics, I couldn't believe it! New Leaf came, and I got it for Christmas, and I was absolutely in love with it. One of the greatest games in existence! And now New Horizons has once again just blown me away. And this time I can't stop playing for too long. I'll go a little bit in spring/summer where I don't play as much, but other than that I'm playing every day and I love it just as much now as when it was released.

Ive been lucky enough to play all of the series, just not in the timeline order, honestly can say The game cube version was one of my favourites, secondly to New Leaf as that was such a glow up for the series as a whole and the experience on the 3ds was just intense as there was soo much to do

can always find me backing Population Growing in the end 😂

I've played all the main series AC games. I started out with the original Animal Crossing and played it for a good amount of time, played Wild World for a few months, played City Folk for an hour, and played New Leaf for like a month or two. Though, I've played New Horizons more than all of them combined, lol

I’ve played and have Wild World, City Folk, New Leaf, Pocket Camp, Happy Home Designer and New Horizons. I’m curious to how many AC games there are.

Is there one called Animal Parade?

The other animal crossing games I have played apart from New horizons is New Leaf I got it for my birthday back in 2013 and played it everyday and loved it :) Then while I was waiting for New Horizons to come out I started playing pocket camp for a bit and loved playing in their Halloween events as its my favourite holiday.

Wild World was my childhood. First AC game I played. I think it was one of my reasons for getting a DS, although I would have for Pokemon anyway. For whatever reasons, the ads really made me excited about the game. I think I was really curious about life sims at the time, because I also loved Nintendogs, but WW grabbed me way more!
I also used to be on another Animal Crossing forum which was where I had my first games with other people online, and some of the only online multiplayer experiences I had at the time. I only stayed there for a couple of months, because at the time I was a dumb kid and kind of spammed the forum and got warnings. I remember being scared of seeders, etc. I didn’t make any close friends, I didn’t even spend much time playing online, but those are good memories.

I really don’t like CF, it just disappointed me so hard. It isn’t even that it’s the same as Wild World so much as I genuinely think it’s worse Wild World. Pics gone, map too big/empty, grass deterioration, didn’t really enjoy the holidays (yes WW’s were silly, but at least they were kinda funny, CF’s were so boring to play). I couldn’t pinpoint this as a kid, but I even felt that they made the villager dialogue a lot worse (tbh, it’s the worst dialogue in the series to me). And of course, the city being disappointing at the time. I almost think the city is worse than I used to because it consolidates everything. Time has not been kind to CF. I felt like I had nothing to do even though it was a new game. To be fair the pics were probably my favorite part of WW as a kid. I definitely whined about it on the other forum. I don’t hate it anymore, but otherwise the general sentiment hasn’t changed a lot.
Side-note: I’m in one of those regions where it’s called “Let’s Go To The City” and City Folk sounds way nicer! To this day I’m jealous over that title.

I don’t get along with my dad at all, WW and NL were the only games I enjoyed playing regularly with him. NL was super impressive at the time. I wrote about it on some other thread, but the gist is, the new features were like stuff I WISHED was in the old games and there was so much to theorise about prerelease and made me hyped to see what everything was like. It was so expansive and added so much. It was so atmospheric and cozy. While I’m more annoyed with its flaws these days, it definitely refreshed the series. I wish I played it online. I never really got into that, but I watched. NL was a special time.

I didn’t play GC until after I’d played CF, and I kinda love that one. It has the best atmosphere out of the older games and I love the details on the map and unique details in the game in general. However, going back to it you can definitely feel the QoL lacking in certain areas, which is probably why I don’t return to it that much. It was nice to see where the series started, and the older I get the more I can appreciate the unique charm of the first game. It’s probably the one my opinion has shifted on the most over time. Not because of some sudden huge change in opinion but I just steadily grew up and kept coming back to it and see more and more in it.

Merch: I had some Wild World keychains as a kid. I think those are a little rare. I don’t know where I left them but I put the Rosie keychain on my DS (she used to be my favorite villager). I don’t collect merch for anything anymore, it’s too expensive. >_>

We bought a gamecube and a few games for my son when he was in kindergarten. One of them was Animal Crossing. I played it starting then. I probably played Wild World the least because I didn't have my own DS and was playing with my kids. I played City Folk a lot when a close friend of mine started playing. Then I played New Leaf a ton, and then Pocket Camp off and on. And, of course, New Horizons. If I had to rank them... 1st - NH, 2nd - NL; 3rd - City Folk; 4th - original; 5th - WW. I'm not including PC because it's such a different type of game play. WW would probably have been higher if I had played it more.

I've played Wild World, New Leaf, and Pocket Camp. Wild World was my first AC game, it's not my favorite but it was my proper introduction to the series. I played Pocket Camp shortly after and it was fun, but I didn't play for very long (either lost of interest or my tablet was probably being screwy).
I wanted New Leaf since 2019 when I was first interested in the series but had to wait two years to buy the game (this was around the time NH was announced so I bought that first). New Leaf is great and it's my second-favorite AC game. :)
I have yet to play GameCube and City Folk (along with the spin-offs).

I’ve played all the NA-released mainlines, Happy Home Designer and Pocket Camp. And although I own a copy of Amiibo Festival, I’ve never played it nor opened it from its original shrink wrap. Maybe one day…
