What are some mistakes you made when you first played ACNH?

Taking too long to update my tent to a house, because I had forgotten how many miles I needed.

Selling fossils before getting them assessed because I thought they would look different.

Hitting rocks after eating.

I didn’t know that you basically get double The bells if you pick your flowers first and then dig it up. Sell both to T+T and you get the same amount for flower stem but also that same amount for the picked flower. I sold a lot of flowers before I figured that out.

I kinda knew that was a thing, but I never separated them while doing flower control because I just couldn’t be bothered. My motto for flower control has always been to get rid of the excess stems as quickly as possible. It’s essentially just my OCD having problems.

It’s hard to change that habit now since I have so many bells in my ABD and am basically set for Animal Crossing retirement, so there’s no real point to selling flowers anymore for me.

I’ve made that mistake too many times early on while moving a bunch of trees… 😂

- When making my island when the game came out, I didn't know that perfect fruits weren't included in the game and I sought out apples to be my island's native fruit. I figured, since the perfect apples already looked nice in New Leaf, that they'd look even better in New Horizons' higher graphics. If I'd known that perfect fruits weren't a feature of New Horizons, I'd probably have opted for cherries. Not that it really mattered either way in the long run.

- I knew that the starting Jock and Sisterly villagers would have generic homes tied to their personalities rather than their actual, individul homes that other residents have. This was fine since I was going to kick them out and replace them with permanent villagers anyway. I did not know, however, that the Normal, Peppy, and Lazy villagers you acquire directly after that would also receive generic homes in the same way; I thought they would have their own indivual interior designs as well. As such, I went out of my way to acquire the permanent Normal, Peppy and Lazy villagers I wanted, only to discover they had generic homes too. I was disappointed once I found out, but at least Happy Home Paradise DLC eventually brought about the ability to edit the homes of our villagers.

There might be other stuff, but those two things are what readily come to mind. If there is anything else and I remember it, I'll make another post.

i never really did nook mile achievements so i have like 100 nook miles total bc i was too lazy

also, i didn't know u could villager hunt so i ended up getting most of my plots to autofill

also, i had an amiibo, right? and 9 plots filled so i had one more plot to put down. then i decided, oh let me put my amiibo in the last open plot instead of kicking out a villager i didn't like bc i was supposed to pick up a villager anyway. sry if thats confusing my brain is a tangled mess.

also i decided to redo my airport entrance 3 times.

I chose a map with a resident services that's wayy to close to the airport. I made it work though, I put so much effort into my island before I realized that I didn't like how close the airport was, and I feel sentimental about it because it's a day-one island so I didn't do anything about it. If I were to restart though, I would definitely choose a map with resident services further away!

Not realising you could hit a rock multiple times, or that you shouldn't break all of them. 😅✨

not caring about my airport colour, it didn't match my island for like a year before i was like "ok i can't stand this anymore" and reset lmao

When I started my original island, all I wanted was K.K. Slider to perform, so I definitely did rush through the tasks and the planning of my island. For instance Buck's house is on the other side of the island to mine. I know I could move it, but that island is sentimental to me so I won't do much else to it. I also feel as if I didn't put my heart into the HHP Homes as all I wanted was Poki so I could access more items and again to get DJ KK!
I planned my second island a bit more, but I would say my third island is my best planned one yet. I put some houses and the Able Sisters down on the beach until I had got on in the game then I planned out where I wanted my villagers to live, and finally Buck lives beside me! I've also done the most terraforming on my third island, which I never really bothered about before, but now I really enjoy the terraforming aspect to the game.
