What are your opinions on the villager personalities?

It all just comes to dialogue rather than design for me.

Personally the main issue for me is that, personalities have become too stereotyped. Lazies always think of bugs, Jocks always talk about muscles, Peppies and Smugs keep talking about their [nonexistent] popstar/acting careers, Snooties bragging about their purse collection, and Normal villagers are so sweet they are bland. I think Cranky and Sisterly are just right.

Although, if you keep talking to them several times, there are actually some good dialogue in there. Kinda wish you'd encounter those more than their generic ones.
But the problem is that all those conversations are repeated the next day.

The only one I can't really warm to is the Lazy personality. No idea why lots of the villagers are very cute but I usually end up letting them go whenever they ask to leave.
I'm not keen on the NH lazies, the NL lazies were much better. I do like their occasional stoner talk about the universe/game though, but it doesn't happen as often as babbling rubbish about bugs or grease/stains which is gross.

Never been much of a fan of jocks and especially don't like how they're always on about sweat stains. Yuck.

Snooty villagers don't ever seem especially snooty to me. I wish they'd turn it up a bit to differentiate them from other types a bit more.

Normal villagers are always nice and polite, though they'd probably be boring to hang out with for too long as they get really into talking about chores.

Sisterly villagers used to be more annoying in NL I think, so I prefer the NH version. They do seem more like a caring but tough older sister.

Smugs amuse me cos they're so unaware of themselves and delusional.

Peppies always seem cheerful and excited to see you, so it's hard to dislike them.

Crankies are like tough old men to me. The type of person you can learn a lot from, if you only stopped to listen and with real heart under their rougher exterior. I think they've become my favourite type.

In general, I prefer the villager personalities in New Leaf...especially with the variety of conversations. In New Horizons, I find the normal villagers rather boring with their dialogue and peppy villagers annoying. I can see that the game is trying to appeal to gen-z humor/phrases etc...but even as gen z myself, I kinda didn't expect it in animal crossing. Honestly, I thought I would warm up to liking the peppy villagers in NH, but instead I took a liking to the cranky villagers (which I hadn't liked that much in the previous games.) But they're not really cranky, they're actually just sweet old dudes.

Lazy villagers crack me up and I like snooty and sisterly villagers. Still not sure about smug and jock villagers though...

The two personalities that bother me the most are lazy and normal. Normals are so boring. Lazy with all their bug talk is cute at first, but then it get stale, redundant and downright annoying. I wish their personalities were expanded a lot more. Sisterly and cranky are great. I don't feel anything to strongly about any of the other personalities, but I barely talk to my villagers for it to matter anyway.

Based on my current villagers at the moment, I think it's safe to say that my favorite personality is Normal. Having like 5 normal villagers in my island, the dialogue gets real repetitive and boring..

I don't care for the Jocks, Lazy, and Peppy - all they talk about are their interests.. or lack thereof. I'd prefer Peppy and Lazy over Jocks. Sometimes they care for you (and then turn the spotlight back to them).

I love the love-hate vibes in the dialogues of Sisterly and Cranky. I often get annoyed by them and let them go but I immediately miss them when they leave. Sadly, they're not appearing on my villager hunts these days... sigh

Smug- I really don't like my interactions with them at all, but I keep one around if they're cute. (yep, looking at you Cephalobot.. careful now)

They all have pros and cons, just like anything. My only real beef with the personality system is the repetitive day-to-day dialogue, especially if you wind up with two of the same types moved in.

Plus with this being the most recent installment, I was sort of hoping for additional personalities to better match the new animals/rework existing ones, too, I guess. :p

It wasn’t intentional, but most of my villagers in NH are Normal and Peppy! I also have my starter Jock villager, and my starter Sisterly villager, because I love them! ☺❤ A lot of my favourite villagers just happen to fit these personalities.

I’ve had a lazy, snooty and smug villager previously, but I’m not looking to get any of these personalities at the moment (though I’ve been thinking of inviting Azalea to my campsite). I plan on getting a cranky bear to add to my island though! 😊

I feel like the personalities in NH are difficult to tell apart sometimes and that they don't match up with their titles. I wish they weren't so bubbly all the time.

I don't really have a problem with any of the personalities, except for lazy. Their obsession with bugs creeps me out, and it's weird to me that they added it, since it was never a part of the previous games.

As for, like, personality "depth", I feel since they fixed the dialogue in one of the updates, it's definitely gotten a lot better, so I can't really complain. After getting used to them repeating the same two bits of dialogue in the beginning, the fact that we actually get to see the rest of their dialogue is already enough of an improvement to make me happy at this point. That being said, I barely play more than getting my dailies done nowadays, so the dialogue isn't really that important to me now.

I don't outright dislike any of them but some are way more annoying than others.

Peppy-this one I like the least only because of the endless pop star obsession, its all they talk about and it drives me nuts
Jock-also dislike the constant muscle talk but I also find it odd that they don't talk about any sports just weight lifting and muscles
Lazy- i actually find the bug talk funny, weird but funny. they are kinda boring but the only thing that really bothers me is when they say the line about "this is the 2nd time i ran into you today, the first was in your dreams." this is just creepy and they say it ALOT.
Sisterly- i like them. they don't say the same things endlessly and are very likeable and friendly
Smug- this one kinda varies. i can't stand Colton(he is so full of himself and a jerk) but I love Raymond and Shep. Same personality very different characters
Cranky- love them! my cranky, walt, is adorable and his old man crankiness cracks me up
normal- some say they are boring but i love them. i have 3 normals atm and they are all the sweetest villagers. and they all love reading like me

Peppy: I used to not like them because I thought they were annoying with their high-pitched voices and their "Californian valley-girl" talk. (Saying words like "ohmigosh!", as well as throwing in a ton of "soooooo"-s and "like"-s in there.) But they always have such a cheerful attitude, so I like them a bit more now.

Snooty: They're all about fashion basically, and in NH they're not even snooty towards the player (or the other villagers even), which is literally the name of their personality type. I was never really a fan of them in general.

Normal: They're super sweet and kind, it's one of my favorite personalities in the game. I love hearing them talk about writing because I feel that I can relate to them. They seem to get along with just about everyone, even cranky.

Sisterly: Another favorite of mine, they're really caring (and dare I say... Sisterly) towards the player and villagers. They always seem to like fighting, which I think is pretty funny. Too bad there aren't many sisterlies (is that even a word?) in the series, the ones I really like are Fuchsia and Frita.

Lazy: I used to like the because they're very cute, but all they talk about is bugs and food. I think that's where Nintendo went wrong. I like their occasional 4th-wall breaking, but honestly I'm not a huge fan of them, despite being one of the most-liked personalities. Though one of my favorite cat villagers is lazy (Moe), so yeah.

Smug: I like their flirtatious and self-centered dialogue. I think they're pretty cool, and they're so charming and humorous. My favorite smug is probably Keaton, but I like Raymond and Marshal as well. Other than that, I don't have much else to say.

Jock: Definitely not a fan, they only talk about working out and sweat... Gross. I can tell they're not very smart, judging by their dialogue and the stereotype that latches onto them. I used to have Antonio, and I went into his house and saw books and a jigsaw puzzle. My reaction? "Why does he have these items? They make him look smart even though he's not!"

Cranky: I saved the best for last. This is my all-time favorite personality ever. I love cranky villagers, even my favorite villager (Apollo) is a cranky! They're so sweet and endearing, even with their tough exterior. They act more like boomers in NH, but I don't mind. Plus, I love their voices, I think it sounds very cool. They may act rude towards you at first, but once you warm up to them they start to show their soft side! So cute.

My favorites are cranky, normal, and sisterly. The ones I like are smug, lazy, and peppy. My least favorites are jock and snooty.

i guess i like them all for the most part. not quite sure how id rank them but here are a few of my thoughts

snootys sometimes rub me the wrong way when they gossip, but i think theyve been toned down a lot in new horizon. idk i have tasha and i really love her

jocks used to be a personality i didnt appreciate as much but now i think theyre really funny and cheerful c:

normal villagers make me feel safe and cozy. you know they will always be kind

lazy villagers are hilarious but also sometimes gross now with the new dialogue. i still love them

uchi is one of the cooler personalities i think. they have interesting stories

cranky now just seems like loving grandpa lol i wish theyd be a bit more cranky but i still like talking to them

smug is cool too. i like how they use words from other languages. the self absorbed dialogue they use sometimes makes me laugh.

peppys can kind of annoy me but i have tangy and i love her enthusiasm. they have a lot of energy and are funny
