What are your top three favourite things about AC:NH?

There is a lot I like about NH. My top three are:

Decorating outside/ terraforming: I love being able to decorate and change my island. Being sble to move the rocks is nice when terraforming. It’s nice to be able to change my island layout without having to reset. Decorating outside is so much easier then in NL. There are some PWP’s I miss from NL but it’s nice you can just place and amove items without having to pay to move them:

Villagers and their houses. I love island hopping for villagers. Itis great that they no longer move without asking you first. It’s also nice to be able to choose and change where their house is.

Storage and stacking: I love that you can carrying more items. It’s also great that most things auto stack. One reason I have a hard time going back to NL is the that you can’t carry as many items. The only thing that would make storage better would be the ability to store flowers, trees and bushes.

1. Villagers. No 1 is definitely the villagers. I didn't play NL, but looking at back at all the older designs, I can see how much they've improved. But the real reason villagers are No 1 for me is because I love my villagers! I don't cycle them out, or try to get all the photos, and I definitely give them gifts all the time. I have no ungifted villagers! I love that once you combine their personality, species, favourite colour, favourite styles and hobbies, you really do have a kind of unique villager. 😊💜

2. The custom design app/customisation. I make all of my own custom designs. They're not as nice as what I know other people can make, but I really enjoy the challenge of doing it, and that I can make my island uniquely mine! There is always an opportunity to customise one more thing.

3. Finding new things. I love being able to come to TBT and buy something I'm looking for, but I also love that a year later I can go to Able's and find something I missed last winter, or experience something I missed. I'm still finding little things. 🤷‍♀️

Sort of related to 3, but not quite, I love that I can always find new inspiration to do something new on my island. 😊

3. I like the openness of the gameplay. This one is hard to describe well. But some days I want to wander around picking up shells and looking at my island and villagers, and some days I want to obsessively redesign, and some days I want to fish and catch bugs, and I like that there are only a few instances in which I ‘have’ to do something in particular.
I realize this may be something from animal crossing in general, it it is what makes the game relaxed to me. There’s no competition, and no pressure.
I think you described this perfectly! I never described it as openness but this is one of the most appealing things. Some days I want to turn it in briefly and try on outfits. Sometimes I want to customize furniture, sometimes I want to fully revamp my house. Or just log in and send a letter to a friend and be greeted by a neighbor. It does vary so widely based on whatever you feel like doing, more so than like Harvest Moon and open world games even.

Island hopping - I find it far less tedious than the reload trick from AC:NL.
I'm probably being stupid, but what is the reload trick? Is that where people would constantly close the game out before saving in hopes of getting a villager to place their home in the spot you wanted them in?

The three things that are great about this game are;
1. That villagers won't just randomly leave out of the blue and you have to agree to it.
2. Terraforming and being able to mold the town to an extent gives you a lot of freedom. Especially being able to move all of the buildings except for the RS and airport. I ended up moving my home from its original spot and it's such a great feature to have.
3. Being able to throw furniture outside. This is a huge step up from pwps. Getting Isabelle positioned just right in NL was a pain lol.

For me I would pick:

1. Villagers not moving out randomly: I’ve been needing a lot of breaks and so I am very grateful they do not move out randomly like in NL. I remember checking back in my NL town months or maybe a year ago to look at something and i forgot what the trick was to ensure the villagers wouldn’t move (and was too lazy to look), so even though I no longer play the game, I’m regretting not looking it up just to ensure everything would be the same if I ever return to playing it.
2. Decorating outside: Decorating has always been my favorite thing about AC so being able to decorate outside was a very welcome addition to the game. More freedom to be creative is always a plus in my book.
3. Harv’s studio: I have fun making up rooms for friends or for my own purposes. I still need to make one for @Mick 🤔.Very helpful to able to try out outfits on villagers or myself and use items without needing to buy them.

Yes, villagers not moving out!

I didn't play New Leaf so I haven't experienced it, but I would be so sad if some of my villagers decided to move out!

Oh man it was a nightmare. If a villager randomly moves in New Leaf it could sometimes destroy your flowers.

Villagers not moving out without your okay is definitely my number one favorite thing about New Horizons. It makes it so much more relaxing to not have to worry about your favorite villagers leaving without telling you, even if you play every day, just because you didn't happen to walk past them when they felt like telling you they were leaving.

Villagers not placing their houses anywhere they please is also a huge thing that's great about New Horizons. Never have to worry about houses suddenly blocking your paths or destroying your plants, especially when it's a villager you really wanted, but then you want to get rid of them because of their house placement.

And New Horizons itself is just beautiful to look at, with such high quality graphics and very nicely designed environments and objects. There are tons of tiny details in the furniture and other items, and you can zoom in really close with the camera to see them.

I love so many things about New Horizons that limiting the list to ony 3 is very hard. I think, at the moment, this is my top 3:

1.- Various activities and differences of the islanders/animals/residents
My neighbors do so much. And what they do is as unique to them as possible. When I play, I can see my little animals not only do their preferred hobbies, but they can also be doing morning aerobics or yoga at the plaza, I can catch them dozing off at some hours, they are sometimes hungry and eating a little snack, I can find them reading something on their houses while having a face-journey...

They are so full of life. They don't just walk around, walk around holding a net/rod or water a flower. They have such a different range of activities and objects they carry around and that's what makes the island feel alive- they are not just favor-machines. Their personality and characteristics shine beyond their words, and these visual differences make them feel distinct from each other. Not all jocks are into fitness, not all crankies eat chocolate-covered donuts, not all peppies read comics, not all snooties eat chocolate popsicles during the summer, not all normals drink coffee.

10 residents of the island, each one doing something while I walk around is just so cool. I can sometimes just sit with my mom and watch Renée sing whatever K.K song is randomly selected or let her do yoga alongside Mathilda, Chadder or Melba. The time just slips as I watch Zucker and Angus struggle with their dumbbells while Antonio flexes at their side, watch how far Bianca and Boots zoom away or laugh because Julia is once again, inspecting the Gallant Statue with a magnifying glass.

In my humble opinion, one of the best things of the game that is also one of the most overlooked and constantly disregarded. I'd like to see this expanded on a future game even more, adding just 2 more snacks and drinks and 2 new hobbies would help to make almost all 400 animals unique.

2.- All the QoL improvements/features
One key reason I never bought NL was because I saw many limitations that although I would have eventually adapt to, I knew they would be frustrating. NH comes around and fixed almost all of them and here I am. Pocket space? Big, it lets me do a lot around my island without having to visit the shop/house every 10 minutes. Storage? Huge. I can be the little hoarder I've always been. I can run around like a madman without worrying about killing my flowers or ruining the grass. I don't waste time stacking everything, it is done automatically. I can now buy multilple things at Ables at the same time and I have a fitting room to try everything quickly. I'm able to choose my features without looking for guides online.

3.- Decorating the whole island
I spend 95% of my playtime outside my house. I don't care about my house as much as my island because of that. Of course I decorate my house and try to make it as great as possible... but the real fun is outside. I love watching an area I worked hard, I love running by the houses of my neighbors because I decorated them with items they would enjoy according to their tastes, dialogue, personality, hobbies... I love when the residents play the instruments while another comes closer to the microphone and starts singing. I love seeing them activate a loom, the monster statue, the drinking fountain... I love when I see them talking photos of the pumpkins, the little trees... And when they dance on the stages I have set? Oh my goodness. If I'm tired of the hourly music (which I'm not) I can also throw stereos around and play 90+ different tunes to drown out the music if I want.

Having the whole island be a representation of my creativity, of my imagination, of me is such a good feeling. And that's also helped by the fact that you're not limited to decorating with furniture items, you can do a lot with everything. I have spider crabs and turtles roaming the beaches, I have balloons swinging with the wind, I have a haunted floating statue just hanging around, I dropped a lollipop on my picnic area, a maple leaf umbrella is there being a pretty giant leaf on the path, I have two wedding tuxedos because heck yeah gay wedding on the beach. The placement of flora is just as fun... do I have enough cedar trees here? Maybe I should put another bush down the line. And the bonus of all? Everyone does it differently. There is so many ideas, so much creativity... the game lets you be so different and express yourself.

Extra bonus: I can immediately place an item I receive to see what it is, no matter where I am. The thrill.

I could also mention the tons of details and care the developers poured on the game, the music, the graphics, etc. But yeah, I think those three are my current faves.

1. The clothing! So much variety! I don't feel the need to wear custom designed stuff, in fact I prefer the in game clothing so much! I love how changing clothing works too, with the preview function in a wardrobe. I could sit around and spend hours playing around with looks. The wand is pretty cool too!

2. Definitely being able to have way way more control over the aesthetic aspects of the island. I love that I can choose where villager houses are placed, and that I can move them/other buildings whenever, and that I can terraform and place natural looking pathways and place furniture outside. It's amazing.

3. Aside from all the QoL changes made since NL, I love the Museum. When I first saw it I was blown away. I hardly go there but they did a great job. I also really love diving for some reason

oof and how could I forget? The graphics in this game are NUTS, especially compared to New Leaf
