I swear I can hear some words perfectly such as "no" and numbers when you have to input a number but most dialogue is gibberish... Do y'all think they did something similar to how Mojang made the enderman dialogue, where they recorded words and then distorted, slowed and then reversed it?

The language the animal crossing characters speak is called "Animalese" which sounds like English but it has Japanese syllables, a computer would be used to alter this and make different pitches and such, so yes the animal crossing villagers do speak English and you can hear it sometimes but it's kind of different from English

I'm bad at explaining things, there is this article you can read on more information about it.

I guess you can technically call whatever Animalese is "voice-acting", but beyond the fact that I know it's different for at least both languages and that villagers had deeper voices in the localization of the GameCube game, I don't think about it too much. It's all synthesized, so I don't consider it actual voice acting.

Wasn’t there an option to change it from Animalese to something else (or at least different tones) in either City Folk or Wild World? I strangely recall this being possible. I think I picked a different option in City Folk because I did not like how Animalese sounded.

Yes in games older then New Leaf you could change the language they speak using rover or the attic telephone.

Yep! I know one was Animalese, then Bebebese, then silent! I thought it was cool but I always used animalese 😎

There at times where it can be great if its done right with the right actors, like GTA 5 for example, but it can be done wrong. For example Super Mario Sunshine (its my least favorite) it was the first Mario game to ever had voice acting. Boy if you hear some of the voices its not that good especially when you get to the final boss.

I believe Super Mario 64 was the first. Both Peach and Mario talk.

I really love the Animalese in the very first versions of the game, it sounds more robotic but I find it more charming

I think it's cute and I like how different villagers have different voices (like uchis have one voice, smug ones have one voice, etc.) But I think my perception of the jock voice was kinda thrown off when Vinny from Vinesauce did Scoot's voice more like a duck's. Now I wish Scoot actually sounded like that lol.
