I've been trying to look up this subject out of curiosity. Most answers boil down to "It's too expensive" or "it's too dangerous and complicated", defeating the purpose of the "what if."

But my bigger question is, would throwing a large amount of trash into the sun have any effect on the sun?

I've read that throwing a lot of trash into a volcanno would cause multiple explosions and releases of gasses and acid. So would throwing all of earth's trash into the sun have a major consequences too? Would it help to expand the sun at a faster rate?

Well, I'm not a scientist and therefore can't answer the question of what would happen if you would use
the sun as a trash can. I guess it will be not easy at all to even use the sun for something like this, as it
takes a while till a rocket full of trash would even reach the sun. Not to mention that we would need giant
rockets for this so that even worth it, and all this cost lots of money. But who knows, maybe someone will
coming up one day with such a plan...

I think we should throw all of earth's gamers into the sun theyre the real trash
Don't forget those disgusting people who supporting pedophilia and zoophilia. Saw some of them on
Twitter recently and was about to puke out my lunch from the last three days.

costs billions and trillions and the sun is 92.96 million miles away and the sun is unstable as it is

i'm sorry but wha-
this is fricking sickening.
Furries and anime fans are basically zoophiles and pedophiles.

Anyway i think ALL of the earths garbage would be too expensive. Maybe some of it when lanfills eventually run out. Lookin at you china.

Mamma mia... I hope you're joking.
Saying that anime fans are pedophiles is the same as saying that everyone who likes Mario wants to sleep with a short Italian plumber. With a mustashe.

Again, I don't know if this is a joke or not but even if it is - it's a really bad one.

Yep, it is. Today, I saw a tweet saying "Retweet if you support zoophilia" and I literally blocked every single
person who retweet this trash. I don't need these freaks on my timeline or do I want to interact with them.
It's already sad enough that twitter doesn't do anything about them, even if lots of people complain about
those people and send reports.

Welp, guess the idea goes into the trash then... Heh.

Okay so i'm going to attempt to explain this the best I can, i'm sure someone on here can explain it better than I do.

Anyways the reason why we don't jettison our garbage into space or the sun is because of the First law of thermodynamics which is energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only change forms. So lets say if we keep throwing our garbage into space/ the sun once that leaves Earth the planet cannot reproduce that matter its gone. And if we keep doing this for years and years we will end up running low on our planetary resources.

I hope this is understandable!

It's the best answer so far but isn't garbage already burned everyday in furnaces?

ahh, internet. you never cease to absolutely fricking disappoint me.

Am I the only one who read the title and thought "...yeah, in theory, why not? Sounds like a fast way to get rid of it."

Doesn't the sun already have a problem causing solar flares and lava tornadoes there? I feel like if we throw trash in the sun, it would probably make the problem worse, causing unintended consequences. Us humans don't own the solar system, but we should take responsibility for our own actions.

I think we shouldtake responsibility for our own actions. Realistically it ain't gonna happen on a mass level though. :(

This is what I think this would most likely happen, too. :(

I'm just curious if it really would be the case if studied further.

Sadly, I can't jump into the sun if I ever tried but it terms of waste, I don't see it having much effect on the sun. The sun could fit up to 1.3 million earth's so I doubt it would hurt the sun. However, the cost to do so would be pricey.
