Ive seen you can put your BTB into the bank or something along those lines? What are the benefits/bad things about this?x

Why would it not be safe outside of the bank?

To access the bank, click "Shop", then "ABD" on the left hand side.
It's not that they aren't safe outside the bank, but some people like to store them there. So as to not spend them, not show others how much they have, etc.
I keep a large chunk in the bank, and as much out as I am willing to spend at the time. Personal preference, I guess.

Interest was the advantage of using the bank, but that was disabled indefinitely due to abuse by several members (details were not shared by the staff).
At this point, benefit is more psychological than practical. In regards to 'psychological' benefits, Badcrumbs gave the examples of encouraging self-restraint and 'not show[ing] others how much they have.'
The second example does not sound as specific, but Star Fire gave the example of people 'begging' for TBT Bells from those who display how much they have. Here is another example: By hiding how many TBT Bells you have, there is an advantage in negotiating price for items or services when the other person does not know your total amount.
