I was wondering to what extent could reply to an old thread without being accused of precisely, bumping too old threads. How many years?

I don’t think its based on years but more of how relevant is it still, would it be beneficial to bump it?

There’s no limit, but generally there’s no reason to bring back up year old threads, the posters probably aren’t even on the forums anymore, the threads “died” for a reason anyways, opinions and thoughts change.
Year old threads can be interesting to look back on, but personally I think it’s much better to just start a new one rather than resurrecting one that’s long gone.

From the rules:

"Posting a contributory reply in a general discussion thread is permitted and is not classified as a bump, no matter the age of the thread."

I'm assuming you're fine? I guess it depends on the thread content. If it's to answer a question for OP, maybe it wouldn't be relevant but if it's a discussion thread you'd be okay?

Is there a specific reason to bump the old thread?

While we do not prohibit responding to old threads, if it has been years since it’s last post you are in most scenarios better off creating a new thread for the topic.

Usually, timeless discussion threads are always relevant, as the age of the thread doesn’t matter. However, that doesn’t mean you can bump multiple old threads in one day or bump a thread last active when Obama was our president. However, the threads that always get locked once they’re bumped from the dead were the threads last active before ACNL’s release. Those I definitely don’t recommend bumping.

So to answer your question, it isn’t about how long it’s been since the last time someone posted. It’s when was the last time someone posted.

theres no limit, if you have something to add to the topic and you think others can contribute too than you can bump it. also its not in the rules or anything but depending on the topic (especially if its sensitive) some people might not like it if their posts from years ago get bumped

Would I be allowed to bump a thread from when Bush was president, though?
