My #1 would be It's a Wonderful Life - it's a sweet & wholesome movie that me & the fam had fun watching on New Years.
Honorable mentions:
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
The Sound of Music
Funny Girl
And pretty much all the animated Disney movies which made up my childhood
This may sound cliché, but the Wizard of Oz has always been a movie I thoroughly enjoyed, especially since it came out during the "Great Depression" era, which would help motivate and uplift those who were suffering during those hard times.
I haven't watched a lot of pre-1970s movies, but the one movie that comes to mind from that time for me would be Psycho (1960). I really enjoyed watching it (both when I was forced to for English, lol, and then on my own years later) and it's definitely held up very well after all this time.
The Quiet Man(1952)
Captain Blood(1935)
Shane(1953)
Dr.Strangelove or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb(1964)
Somebody Up There Likes Me(1956)
To Kill a Mockingbird(1962)
Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.(1951)
Becket(1964)
The Sound of Music(1965)
Forbidden Planet(1956)
I love a lot of these older films, including the old Disney films (especially the hand drawn animation). My favorite old film hands down, is the original Dr. Dolittle from 1967.
