I always start with the interior design, and I pick out a wallpaper and flooring first. Afterwards, I start placing rugs and larger pieces of furniture before moving on to smaller pieces. I also typically decorate the walls last before going back outside to design the exterior!

How do you typically go about designing vacation homes?

I always begin with the yard because when we arrive at the property we're outside already. Then I go in the house and open the boxes for the required furniture and place it down. After that, I usually select a wallpaper and flooring but I usually end up changing my mind a few times. I decorate the walls and add ceiling lights last.

I start outside. Especially if they have an item on their must have out there (Lucky) since I'm already outside. Then I'll move indoors to figure out what to do. I struggle on making a home that fits the theme only rather than something liveable. So I usually make it larger and use partitions to at least create a bedroom.

in one word: terrible. i'm not a designer. i struggled so much with megan's house last night that i just let the game sit for an hour out of frustration. that being said, this is what i usually do.

exterior first. i'll decide if i want fencing. then i'll throw down the path -- usually a set of circles leading to the house. then trees, bushes, flowers and weeds. it's hard because i don't like leaving a lot of open space. then i go inside. see what i'm working with. i try to have a bed in there regardless (which is going to be difficult for more abstract requests later on, i know), a seating area and then whatever else i have room for -- i.e. a kitchen unit or reading nook. once i have all the furniture laid out, i'll add a rug or two. then throw some stuff on the walls. then add some ceiling decor. usually it's only a light and/or some of those hanging shelves. since i'm only, like, 5 houses in, i'm a little limited on furniture which makes it even harder for me rip.

It depends on the theme. I always start with the part that feels like it most fits the theme, because it's easier to get inspiration and build up an idea of what you want to do. For example, if the theme is gardening, I generally start outdoors and will do indoors second. But if a theme seems more indoorsy, then I will start there and do outdoors second.

My process is pretty much the same as yours! I do move things around a lot, and I'll mostly use objects from the first order tab, since they're easy to match to each other.

I pretty much follow this exact procedure as well. Except that I occasionally design the exterior first. It depends on where the focus of the design lies.

I start outside, always. The characters I'm most interested in general don't always have the most interesting requests, so honestly how much time I spend and how creative I am depends on the request. Queenie had a great simple request that was fun to figure out, so I was glad I scanned her in, and a villager I found on the beach and wasn't enthused by, Tybalt, also had a really fun one, for two non-spoiler examples. But then you get seemingly endless coffee cafes, reading nook, and ice cream shop requests for villager homes and they start running together, even for villagers I love

I typically start on the exterior and then proceed to the interior. It’s easier for me that way since I’m coming off of choosing the area from the map I thought would best be appropriate for the vacation home they’re requesting so since the inspiration is already there from choosing the map, I take it from there.

I start outside, since that’s where the game puts you first. And I customize the house either to match the yard I created, or the character I’m making the home for.

When I do the interior, I resize the room according to what the request was (example: Zucker’s theme was Festival Grounds, so I used the largest dimensions for the room). I open the boxes, put up the wallpaper/flooring, and then the partition walls/beams/counters (again, depending on what I’m making). After that I put down big furniture, then smaller things like plants/table top decorations. Then I finish off with wall/ceiling items and rugs!

Outside because I can put some items for the theme that are not really indoors.

I had a villager asked me for a soccer field, so after I made the yard a stadium, I converted the interior into a lockers room.

It's easier for me this way.

Depends on the theme, villager and locale, but I start outside, choosing the season, time of the day and weather, then I decorate the exterior of the house.

After I'm done with the exterior, I go inside and I start by choosing flooring, wallpaper and rugs depending on what I have to work with (which means I also look at every furniture item available to see what will match and what won't).

Then, it's time to furnish the villager's home, and after I'm "done", I proceed to the next step: removal. I follow the simple rule of "whenever you finish something, take something out of it". After that, I go outside and repeat the removal step there, and then I'm done.

my process is honestly really simple — i take into consideration the villager i’m designing for and what i know about them, look at the items i have to work with, and then just... wing it lol. i’ve never been great at designing things, so i tend to just throw stuff together until i think it looks good. 😅

i’ve yet to design any exteriors, though, since i’m much worse at that lmao.

i always start with the exterior because i love designing their yards the most and it helps me get a feel for what i wanna go for with them. and then i start on the interior - choose a wallpaper and flooring and then dump all the furniture i think looks cool into their room and rearrange and whatnot. then finishing touches on the walls and ceiling.

I start indoors and work in segments.

Typically I divide the interior in to small squares in my head and work on them one by one. Just placing items that look good together right next to each other. How much I divide the space depends on my mood, sometimes it's just in half and other times it's in four. My final step is usually blending my segments together so they form a cohesive bigger picture. Adjusting colors and small details usually accomplishes this. I do take the time to always break my invisible lines in this phase too just to make it look less segmented and more organic.

I'm pretty sure my process is easy to make out in my final designs, but I don't mind it too much. A lot of clutter and detail in small spaces of the room.

As for outdoors spaces... I just make it up as I go. I need to work more on my outdoors designs for sure, but I struggle with them a lot since the space shapes don't make it possible to apply my usual indoors methods.

I start placing the items first, and then decide on a wallpaper that matches the items. I’m not much of a wall decorator I suppose, so sometimes I skip that. Then I move outside and try to match the exterior to the inside.
