What songs hit you with a wave of nostalgia every time you hear them?

Pretty much any Keane song off Hopes and Fears because my mom used to play it in the car when I was little. I get hardcore nostalgic whenever I listen to the album fully

Pretty much any Keane song off Hopes and Fears because my mom used to play it in the car when I was little. I get hardcore nostalgic whenever I listen to the album fully

I used to always listen to that album, in fact Everybody's Changing came up on my shuffle earlier :giggle:
other full albums that are nostalgic for me:
  • Enrique Iglesias - Escape (often played in the car when I was very young)
  • Coldplay - X&Y (this album seemed to be constantly played when I was young, it ended up been taken on multiple family holidays as well so I'd hear it on a loop for about two weeks)
  • Snow Patrol - Eyes Open (was often on in the car and nearly always played on the way to the airport, luckily this one stayed in the car though rather then been taken abroad)
  • Girls Aloud - What Will the Neighbours Say? (my sister and I constantly played this album at home, it was practically our soundtrack for Mario Kart:Double Dash so the songs always remind me of many hours on the Gamecube)
basically any songs from:
  • Busted or Blue or Westlife or Backstreet Boys (especially 'What I Go To School For' and 'Backstreets Back')
  • Nickelback (often had the Silver Side Up album playing at home but basically any of their songs remind me of family holidays in Florida as every time we've been we've heard at least one Nickelback song play on the radio which is crazy cause the years range from 2001 to 2019)

Plus Shaggy - It Wasn't Me (honestly there seemed to be no escape from this song)

Stars by Hum.

Anything from the Misfits Danzig era. The self-titled Ramones album. I would always listen to these on my way to school.

The gummy bear song, definitely. I heard that song so much during my childhood so it brings back tons of memories.

Sweden from Minecraft, it always reminds me of time in college and before spent with friends roaming and building, getting into other modified clients, pirate servers.. good, fun days.

How Deep is Your Love by the BeeGees:

This song was my dad's favorite. We'd listen to this in the car a lot.

that MGMT song, Kids. Someone made a fan video of that did better in YouTube views than the actual official video. It brings me back to good memories and a very specific time in my life.

80s songs that are particularly emotional, like a power ballad or something in adult contemporary, always give me a warm fuzzy feeling as if I had been temporarily transported back to the 1980s. now mind you, I wasn't born until '99 but some of those 80s songs just have such a powerful way of encapsulating the love and fear that was going on at the time.

one song that perfectly demonstrates the fear at the time are "Forever Young" by Alphaville, a song about the Cold War and what would happen if a nuclear war actually went down. now I wouldn't say this is positive nostalgia but it really gives me the feeling that I'm living in the US in 1985, in the heat and fear of the Cold War. the music itself really has that nostalgic quality to it too, it's a quintessential 80s power ballad with a hidden message.

and as for love songs that are really nostalgic, I would say songs like "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera, "Faithfully" by Journey, and "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx are the pinnacle of nostalgia for me. Even a song like "Father Figure" by George Michael, intimate and powerful, is really nostalgic. one last song that makes me feel a lot of nostalgia is "Toy Soldiers" by Martika, another really emotional song that has a great musical track. I love listening to 80s ballads as well as pop songs of the time, they make me feel like I myself had been living in the 80s and it's a really warm and fuzzy feeling for me since I absolutely love the 1980s.

it seems kinda strange that someone can have nostalgia for a decade that they didn't even live in 🤔

I used a few songs as ringtones about a decade ago, and they are definitely still burned in my brain when I hear them anywhere. Those songs instantly bring back memories of waking up on a couch at a friend's house as a hungover 19/20 year old and looking at texts/calls when I was entirely too drunk to even be breathing. A few of those were 'Black Water' by the Doobie Brothers, 'Radar Love' by Golden Earring, 'Thunder Island' by Jay Ferguson, 'Thick as a Brick' by Jethro Tull, and 'Ventura Highway' by America. Lol.

Probably any of the crazy frog songs or the Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum OST.

hips dont lie is literally like a time machine for me. i feel like it cant exist in any other year therefore if i'm listening to it, im back in 06 haha. a thousand miles by vanessa carlton is another one that transports me. its strange because i can listen to songs from my childhood for example wannabe by the spice girls and not feel that nostalgic because i listened to it so much throughout my life that i dont really associate it with that period. like, ill never feel nostalgia watching the office because i watch it constantly.

There a few songs that I find nostalgic like "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's, "You Don't Know You're Beautiful" by One Direction, "Africa" by Toto, "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt, "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "Someone Like You" by Adele, and some movie songs like "You've Got a Friend in Me".

So many songs, some of which have already been mentioned. The songs that really remind me of my childhood would be oldies that my dad used to listen to on the radio. To name a few: Daytime Night-time by Keith Hampshire, Sunny Days by lighthouse, Hot Child in the City by Nick Glider, Reelin' in the Years by Steely Dan, etc.

But the one song that really speaks to my teenage years has to be none other than: Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional

I almost forgot about the majority of Splatoon 1's soundtrack. They all bring me back memories of 2016 ;v;

More specifically, Kraken Up, Now or Never, Metalopod, Octo Valley, Tentacular Circus, Inkopolis News, City of Color, Calamari Inkantation, etc...
