What the heck is a bump?

its a post on a thread to 'bump' the thread to the top of the board! Every new post on a thread moves it to the top, so people 'bump' their posts so more people see it :) hope that made sense!

Bump.

Just kidding, it’s another post that’s only purpose is to push the current thread up to the top of the thread list on a board. Very useful for trading threads especially, and I’ve seen it on all sorts of forum sites.

Just keep in mind there’s a certain etiquette related to bumping on various sites. Typically you’d bump as soon as your thread is no longer on the front page, but this sort of thing is typically reserved for selling threads, etc. If it’s a discussion thread bumps aren’t really common, because if its buried in other threads it can be assumed people have lost interest in the discussion and bumping is useless.

This site and others often have bumping time limits to enforce this etiquette, here it’s 4 hours per regular thread, 2 per most trade oriented threads. It varies from forum to forum, and some don’t even have time limits but etiquette is still in play.
Also, bumps are considered bumps when the thread was previously inactive, no matter what you say. People just say “bump” when their only goal is to move the page up.

There’s always exceptions to rules, but this has been my experience!

it’s like a way to put your thread on the front page for more people to see if it didn’t get much recognition, it’s normally used in the trading threads
