what villager designs do u just not understand?

so basically i've just discovered this villager, penelope, i've never seen her before and i'm so confused

i mean, obviously she is a mouse villager but why is there a bow where her ears are supposed to be? couldn't they give her ears and a giant bow?
that just makes her an entirely different animal because she doesn't have ears?????

this is just such a weird design and i can't get my head around what is up with it and why nintendo thought it was a good look lol
no hate to penelope though, she's kinda cute in her own weird way ♡

does anyone else have that one villager where they look so weird to the point u just don't understand their design

I really love Penelope actually. I headcanon her bow as a sort of "prosthetic" because she lost them from some kinda illness. I say prosthetic in quotes because I,,, mean it just looks like a bow. I don't think they function as her ears.

As for designs that don't make sense... hmm. Well why is Flora an ostrich? And why does she insist she's one? Kinda weird if you ask me.

I love Barold
He’s so cute! Harry I agree though.

I would say some of the mice confuse me.
There’s Moose...who is not a moose. They gave him weird hair. There are other curly hair villagers that have nice looking curls, but Moose’s hair kind of looks like they drew it on with a crayon. And Rizzo’s bandana. Why is it tied under his nose. So weird.

I have to agree with the ostrich thing (I think Flora was mentioned above). Like I get it from a programming standpoint, but it doesn't make sense when all but like 2 of a species are directly designed as something that isn't actually that species. Flamingo, phoenix, crane, pheasant, etc. I think there's maybe one or two that are actually ostriches. They should have just called them "bird" similar to the smaller birds, at least then dialogue wouldn't be weird.

Just to sorta clarify Rizzo's bandana, it's a hokkamuri. Farmers wore hokkamuris to keep the sun out of their face and it'd tie under their chins.

Thieves in retrospect tied under their noses to cover their faces more. Then it was adapted into ninjas and Rizzo is based on a ninja. Or both, lol.

also i feel like its cool because nintendo is making designs that normally other games and companies wouldnt use because theyre considered "unattractive" as someone who gets told people think im ugly because im chubby things like that mean a lot tbh
