I couldn't resist the title--

But yeah! Okay so I know a lot of horror movies are rated R and there are some younger users here. But I mean, I grew up with my dad being strict with ratings so... I'm not sure what to say about that, actually...
ANYWAYS

I wanna expand my horror movie knowledge!! And I especially love "hidden gems" or good indies. So, drop your favorite horror movie! (And maybe a trailer where applicable? Make it fun~)

My personal fave is a really cheesy one but I love "V/H/S 2" !!

Also another good one--it was on Netflix a while but I'm not sure if it's there anymore--is "The Autopsy of Jane Doe" !

I hope this will be fun for people! :D (besides my social awkward rambling...)

My favorite horror movie is Child's Play (the original from 1988). Yes, it's cheesy and not really scary at all in my opinion, but I love it. Watching Chucky's little feet patter around while everyone is terrified for their life always makes me laugh. It probably doesn't hurt that I love collecting dolls, so a horror movie with a cute doll in it was bound to draw my attention.

nice try, ghostface 🙄. xjsmsks i honestly love scary movies - my short attention span makes it so that there’s not many shows or movies that i can watch but scary stuff always manages to hold my attention. that being said, if i had to pick a favourite, it would definitely be “orphan”. there’s no ghosts or anything paranormal but that movie was still eerie as hell.

haha! like I said, I couldn't resist the joke~
I feel the same way! It's like it draws me in and I gotta know what happens lol
Ohhh!! Orphan was a good one!!

Scary movies huh, that brings me back, used to watch a ton of movies back to high school.
I think the movie that left the biggest impressions on me, and my friends were Dead Silence, but the one we watched the most were The Shining.

I really like The Visit but it's probably just because I saw it when i was a lot younger. Same goes for Unfriended, I literally have an old poster for the movie from 7 years ago still hanging on my wall

The Visit had such a weird twist omg

I haven't watched horror movies in a while, and I haven't kept up with new releases in like 3 years or more, but from my limited viewing, my favorites are Misery, Wrong Turn, Leather Face, Silence of the Lambs, Aliens and probably The Shining because I can watch them more than once without getting bored.

Of them, my #1 favorite is Misery, which isn't really scary, but I enjoy watching every now and then.

My favorite is definitely the original "Poltergeist" from 1982. I find it different than other horror films, like the plot is more intriguing to me.

Hmm I really love comedy scary movies, specifically Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Sean of the Dead, and Cabin in the Woods.

An actually scary move I really liked is Tale of Two Sisters
Very unsettling and beautifully shot.

Oh I thought of another one, Hard Candy starring Elliot Page
Suspenseful and has a very satisfying ending

Also the movie Get Out is super good too

I love Us! I think it has a really good plot, and much like Get Out, the movie really makes you think about everything. Not just in terms of the story, but also the greater meeting. I chose to show the movie for a class last semester, and we had an amazing discussion about it.

Top tier is the shining!
Then there’s 13 ghosts, silent hill, the hills have eyes remake, evil dead 2 original and remake, Jennifer’s body lol, ihemmm that is all I can think of right now but there’s so many more! The ring and one missed call, I love those early 2000’s flicks it’s a guilty pleasure 😊

Yes! He's my new favorite director tbh!

After watching the non-American originals of The Ring and One Missed Call, I couldn't help but laugh through those movies ;;

Horror movies are not my cup of tea, but the only one I like is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019).

I used to read those stories growing up @-@

My top 3:
1. Us
2. Train to Busan
3. Hereditary
*4. Cube series

There's probably more I'm not thinking of but I think those are my top 3! Most horror movies aren't scary at all to me but Hereditary is definitely one of, if not the spookiest horror movies I have seen. Us is really unique when it comes to horror movie themes imo. Train to Busan is just a fun, well-done zombie movie. Side note, when I was in middle school The Exorcism of Emily Rose really messed me up for a solid 2 weeks. Not sure if it still holds up, haven't gotten around to making myself rewatch it.

Side side note, I also love dark comedies like Army of Darkness, Murder Party, and A Dog's Breakfast.

*Triple side note, I just remembered the Cube series. Thats a great sci-fi horror, do recommend.

i hate horror movies, but i have ironically seen a few and watch a couple of youtube channels that cover them. (dead meat, foundflix and, recently, cinema summary.) the three i've actually seen are orphan, the woman in black, and the ring. out of the three, orphan is probably my favorite in hindsight despite not having any supernatural elements. the ring was easily the scariest of the three though (and i made the mistake of seeing all of these movies when i was around 12) and terrified me so badly i had nightmares for upwards of six months and couldn't even sleep in my own room asdfghjk.

in terms of horror movies overall though...

i would say, unironically, the final destination and saw movies, even though both series arguably got progressively worse. i could never sit down and watch any of them as, well, actual movies though. i'm not into gore, and i have this weird thing where seeing people seriously injured makes my body tingle uncomfortably. (like pins and needles, kind of.) that being said, i have a weird morbid curiosity that those movies feed into. even before i saw the kill counts, there were several times i would go on the wiki pages for the movies and read about the traps from saw or the freak deaths in final destination. it's not about the death/gore itself, though, it's about the... method? (and, to a much lesser extent, the brutality.) in the sense that death's kills in FD and jigsaw's traps are both very rube goldberg and wildly out there or implausible. i don't know why, but they intrigue me, as does other media that kills characters in similar ways. it's more... inventive? interesting? than the regular slasher movies that have relatively similar (and often supernatural) antagonists.

which might be why i also liked alice in borderland. didn't watch the actual show, just watched cinema summary tell me how to beat it, but the games in it fascinated me and had that same saw/FD vibe.

I love the Halloween series (Michael Myers). I can't wait for the new one to come out in October!
