When you consider the game completed?

By nature of the series' open-endedness and laid back structure, I don't know that I'll ever consider New Horizons (or New Leaf) "completed." I can have the museums fully completed, all houses fully paid off, etc. but so long as the games have something appealing to come back to and I have the means to play the games, or unless I just decide to simply cease playing them for whatever reason, they'll never be complete.

I can also agree with Rosch and TheDuke55 on the matter of the items not included in New Horizons leaving a sense of incompleteness as someone who has played the Animal Crossing games since the GameCube game, but that's a bit of a tangent regarding the design philosophy of the game and a different definition of completion. As the game stands on its own merits though, yeah, see the first paragraph.

I haven't played New Horizons since the Celebrating Diversity event a while back, then before that was the Bell Tree Championships, otherwise I hadn't played for months. New Horizons is definitely not enticing for me at the moment, but I'm withholding full judgment of the game until it eventually stops receiving updates entirely.

When I catch 100 fish in a row. So, never
If you insist on doing it the legitimate way, maybe never, though also not impossible. But you can also go about it the way I did: catch some fish and save often. Like, you can try to catch 1-5 (or more, depending on your comfort level) easily catchable fish, save, then continue as needed. If you fail a catch, just make sure to close the game before the game can autosave and then load the game back up. The 100 catches, while needing to be done in succession, don't have to all be in the same single play session. If you fail a catch and you quit out of the game before it can autosave, it won't hurt your tally.

For me, as long as the missing content is absent in this game, even if I've done everything, that feeling of completeness will never happen.

Well said. The same goes for me. I never expected all the Nl sets to be in the game, though I expected a lot more new furniture sets and variety and a decent amount of the items (like that HHd had too and not recycled like the school desks and record box were). So for me, when there is more a variety in furniture (some more new sets & maybe some old and please not recycled), the house room size equivalent or bigger than NL’s (it’s a new game so you’d think there’d be significant improvement), a Nook upgrade that also is significantly improved from NL’s final upgrade.

At this point, I couldn’t care less about completing the critterpedia, since I’m not enjoying playing the game at all anymore or the nook mile achievements. I like taking things at my own pace. Completing these does not make me feel like playing the game is complete. Decorating my island fully and being happy with it is part of what will make the game feel complete in addition to what I said, and even then I may keep playing if they make the interactions with villagers more fun, add mini games or something else than what we have currently.

Also the interiors of the villagers houses look extremely inconsistent. Like some look like some effort was put into it while others look like zero effort was put into them. So improving things like that to show more consistency in effort and creativity by the developers would make the game feel more complete too.

I feel like there are other things too but my jaw is hurting right now so I will post again or edit if I think of anything else later. can’t concentrate ><

As in, when do I consider an island completed?

I'd say when:

- You have all your dream villagers
- Everything is landscaped/terraformed/decorated to your liking
- All buildings are fully upgraded
- The museum is 100% completed (art, bugs, fish, fossils, etc.)

And if I'm being really strict,

- When you have obtained all the badges
- EVERYTHING is catalogued

I'm probably never gonna reach that though. I haven't finished catching all the bugs and fish, haven't gotten all the art, haven't even gotten all the KK albums I think.

I don’t think I’ll ever consider the game finished maybe once I finally finished that last parts of my museum which is bugs and fish. But they are always adding new items and having new events for the game so I would feel like it’s not finished as it’s still updated.

I haven't completed the game yet and I'm not sure it matters to me. My goal is to keep changing it up so I have things to do. Going around doing daily tasks only isn't that interesting to me. Nor is playing in real time.

I don’t view AC games as completable games. There is always something to do in the game wether it’s an event, holiday, or changing your island. As far as the nook mile achievements go, never lol I have no desire to grind at those. I also have no desire to finish the fish and bug museums.

I feel like as long as there is things happening in the game then it’s not completed. And the beauty of it is, if you ever do feel like it is completed you can restart or flatten and build new. A lot of possibilities that can keep it fresh.
