Where are the fish?

I started playing WW a while back but I have a hard time finding fish. They almost never seem to show up? They also seem more common on the beach than in the river. Do fish in WW really spawn super slolwly and infrequently? Any tips on finding them more often?

I started a new file on WW recently and have been fishing as my main source of bells. Sometimes if I'm having trouble finding them I will refresh the map by going in and out of the museum or gate and that seems to help! The fish in my town often go under the bridges too so that's also a good place to check for them!
