Why didn't my ceadrs grow?

I saved up over a week, 22 cedar trees. To insure that they were going to be grown in a good place, I planted cherries in the places I was going to grow the cedars. They began to grow, so I chopped them down and planted the cedar where the cherry trees began to grow... However, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY CEDARS died!!!!!

and by north, they don't mean on top of the cliff, they mean literally northern half. so, what i do is i look at my map and find the northern half of town and plant trees there. a couple of my landmarks on the northern half also so that helps too.

Wahahahaha. That really sucks, but it's kinda funny. All mine that I planted on the lower level of my town died and I didn't know why. Then I found out they only grow on the upper level. >.>
