Why do dates matter on collectibles?

Because the dates determine the order that the collectibles appear There is no other way to put them in a specific order except to get specific dates for each

Collectibles show up in your sidebar from most recent to least recent (the date when the first person who had the collectible obtained it). For example, if you look at my lineup, the top left is the Moon Ball, which has a date in 2020. The least recent is the Pokeball, which has a date in October 2013.

That would explain why no matter how hard I tried to match my collectibles by type it wouldn't work! I was getting so frustrated! Ooooh I feel dumb,,

I was wondering this too for the longest time. I thought it had something to do with their rarity, like how an aged wine is more expensive haha.
