I just got back from a marketing/business competition, and for the second year in a row I got first in my category at districts!

Last year was the first year I could do it, and I was taking the class Marketing I. It was a surprise to everyone, but I ended up getting 1st at Districts, which is for all of SE Wisconsin (I think it's like 38 schools; over 700 students competing). I ended up getting 1st at state as well, and going to Nationals (in my advisor's 30 year career of doing this, only 4 sophomores had ever gone to Nationals, out of 200 students that have gone to Nationals under him).

So, Districts was today. I wasn't as nervous as last year, but still just a bit (mostly during the awards ceremony, not that much during competition). I ended up doing pretty well... winning Districts for the second year in a row! I'm the first person from my school to ever win back-to-back as a Sophomore then Junior.

:)

I don't understand it that much, but from what I did understand I think that is something to "WOO!!" about.

It's a business/marketing competiton. There are 2 written tests, and 2 "role-plays". Role playes are where you're given a problem, and you're given 10 minutes to prepare a presentation type thingy then. After your 10 minutes of prep, you go do the role play with a judge. You're given a role as well as the judge (you might be a manager, or an employee, for example, while the judge is a complaining cutomer or your boss)... Then, the judge scores you out of 100. Both tests are out of 100 as well.

At the awards ceremony, the top performers for each category receive a medal (so there are 4 possible medals for each category... role play 1, role play 2, test 1 and test 2). Then, the Top 10 or so receive another medal for series finalist. Then, the top 4-7 (depending on the serie's size) receive trophies. I now have 1st place trophies from distrcits last and this yr, and state last yr.

This sounds somthing at my school called "forenisics." I was in it for about a year, then left becuase there was just a bunch of drama nerds in it.

Anyway, it looks like darth will be quite a busy worker when he grows up?

Future Nintendo Corp. worker?

I did Forensics in middle school... and hated it.

This is called DECA... and Zelandonia, it may not be at your school because it's only a high school thing I believe, unlike Forensics.

Wait, what do you mean by only a high school thing?

Lol, I am in high school, I'm a Sophomore. But my High School is only about 200 kids...

Congrats Darth! I am not into that type of stuff, though.

:p If I were to be in any school-associated competition, it would probably be about writing or mathematics. Best subjects ever, no doubt... I'm not a fan of business/marketing type of stuff, but whatever floats your boat.

:p

 Well good for you.

but business....

I did some science competition stuff my senior year. Unfortunately the trebuchet broke.... in the astronomy test I did really well too bad i didn't know you could have any resource with you, including text books and laptops....that really got me angry, I mean honestly what kind of a test is that! and then they needed someone other than this one person good at chemistry....now, I hate chem, so I pretty much worked on the written parts, and checked any I didn't know with the the other guy.

It was an upsetting year....yet somehow still better than the last....they must have been horrible that year....

Oh, sorry. I thought you were in kiddle school.

:p

Also, Bul, there's a good amount of math involved.

And Sporge... it's about the journey, not the destination.

I know that math is involved (how else would marketing work? :\), but I just don't like that kind of math.... The application, I mean.
