If they used the same graphics as New Horizons. Maybe they would keep the height of the player character and villagers from the original game though.

I apologize if this topic doesn't belong here. I'm just curious to how many New Horizons players would buy a remake of the original Animal Crossing.

I would. Animal Crossing on Gamecube is my favorite game in the series and I miss a lot of villagers that they sacked. That, and the rudeness would bring a much-needed change to modern AC's dialogue.

Probably. I've never played the original one before. And I always prefer games with better graphics, shallow as it is.

i’ve never played the original gamecube animal crossing but i think i would buy it but i’d prefer if the graphics remain unchanged. sometimes better graphics aren’t always a good thing and i feel like improving the graphics would take away from the game.

Yes, but if they did redo it I think that the art style of New Leaf might be more fitting. NH's focus on realistic but not cute graphics wouldn't translate as well imo.

If they sped up the time it takes to open the menus that'd be nice too haha

But really I'd probably like just a port the best.

Yes! That would be pretty great to be honest. I hear a lot of things about the GameCube version that sounds like a lot of fun. I mean, they could also add some of those features into NH and that'd be nice too. Mostly I want more things to do, more events, random holidays, that kind of thing. I don't want it to be "the same thing every day" all of the time. Some months just feel so bare to me. Summer is especially rough - last year I stopped playing regularly in June and didn't really get back into it until August, and the same thing happened this year, only on a lesser scale. I would just go a few days without playing instead of weeks.

If un-befriended villagers can be mean, maybe.

Animal Crossing doesn't need remakes. It's not the kind of game. Animal Crossing is about the same game every release, what we need is improvements, not remakes.
Tell that to the people that bemoan how we don't have the same features from previous titles every time.

If they keep it all the same. Resetti, rude villagers, all of it. If they have to change everything up because 'it made children cry' then no. Because it'd just be NH all over again with lacking villager dialogue and the such.

I would, if Nintendo got rid of the randomly moving out villagers. I don’t like having to worry about my favorite villagers moving out. Otherwise, a GameCube remake would be nice.

I think an AC Gamecube remake would be better suited for the 3DS(if it was still being supported),kind of like what Nintendo did for the old Zelda and Mario games.New Leaf would be a better candidate for a Switch makeover but I would still be interested in a revamped AC Gamecube game.

I have a copy of the gamecube ac and a wii to play it but if they came out with a remake id buy it in a heartbeat lol ac foreverrr

i still have the original and a working gamecube so it would depend on the price. i actually find the original graphics very charming so im not sure i would enjoy playing the original in hd, but i would be interested to see how it turned out. if it wasnt too pricy and i didnt have to buy another console i might consider it. i dont think nintendo would rerelease the old villager dialogue though

I'd love a port of the original game and of Wild World on the switch, so I could have a way more convenient way to play them! :D (I don't care my DS around anymore and I can’t play the Gamecube game on the Wii on the go. Also booting up my Wii with it’s constant empty remote batteries isn’t something I consider fun xD)
The gamecube game and Wild World both have very unique charm and very unique dialogue, they're both great experiences. I'd not be super interested in New Leaf or City Folk. City Folk because nothing that was in it wasn't either in Wild World or New Leaf, and New Leaf because I've gotten all the hours I want to get out of that game. xD

I don't think there is enough to do in the first game to make it worth purchasing today. If it were to become available on NSO at some point, I may check it out, but I can't imagine it holding my interest for long.

Generally speaking, it's been my experience that older games rarely hold up as well as they do in our memories.

Hmmm maybe there is a high chance they can do that, but I don't know. If they do like a HD remake then you know they would make changes or tone down certain things of what was in the original but then they change it to where it meets modern styles like what we see in New Horizons. On one hand it can be a good thing to get those who never played the original to experience it the first time to give an idea of what the original was like, but at the same time old AC players could be annoyed if they were to do changes that could take away the charm.

Or they could just add GameCube games to Switch online in the future (I say that because now we know that N64 games are making a return) and maybe the original Animal Crossing will be one of the games they could bring to the Switch and it will still play the same as it was, but I am not sure if they will have to make changes to how you visit towns, because you need to have a 2nd memory card to do that.

TLTR: It sounds like a great idea, but I am not sure how they will capture the same charm that people once had growing up and how it would impress the people that played New Horizons.

Yes! Population: Growing was my introduction to AC, and I would be beyond ecstatic to replay it on the Switch. I wouldn't even care if it was just a straight up port or if it was a remaster.

Even though I wouldn't care if it was a port or a remaster, I think I would prefer a remaster. Remasters can be done so very well (looking at the Spyro trilogy remasters – those were phenomenal and exactly what a remaster should be), and as long as everything else remains relatively the same aside from improved graphics and sounds, a remaster would be a great improvement and very fun to replay.

I think it's more likely we'd get a port of it (I don't think they'd invest that much effort in remastering it or anything), which I would definitely buy. Every once in awhile I get nostalgic for older gens of games (same with Pokemon) and it's a pain to actually play the GC one now (I need to use my Wii for it, since my Gamecube doesn't work well... I spilled fruit punch on it within a year of getting it and it likes to open randomly, thus stopping the game. Resetti HATED me when I used it.) so I'd definitely enjoy a port.

It'd be interesting to see how they'd work out visiting other towns, though. Maybe we could have one per profile and could visit the other profiles? Or maybe they'd set it up like DAs? I know I loved visiting "other" towns as a kid, by buying multiple memory cards and creating other towns.
