Considering the fact that the Switch 2 is going to be more powerful than the first one, and also that ACNH runs pretty efficiently and looks very good already, would you care for AC6 to have a 360 degrees camera?
The use of the fixed camera in this franchise has been sort of a staple, I think it's been used for optimization and performance issues mostly?
But with the Switch 2 being officially announced I've been wondering if I'd like this to change.

And... I think I'd like to have a free camera! I thought maybe the fixed one gave Animal Crossing its... well "Animal Crossing touch" but the MK8 track definitely has that vibe in my opinion and yet the camera is 360. And also ACNH sorta misses said touch, while the camera is fixed.
So yeah, I'd like to see what they can do with the added power (on top of reducing achingly long loading times) of the new system!

What do you guys think?

I think it would give me motion sickness 😂 depends how they go about it but to be honest I’d just prefer it to be how it always has been. It would be cool though, if they work it well

It could definitely be implemented, and probably wouldn't be hard to do. The fixed camera has been a consistent feature throughout the series, and if anyone noticed, tends to receive slow updates on a per-game basis. It started with the sector camera fixated on the ground in the first game, followed by Wild World loosening it and being able to look at the sky. New Leaf introduced the 360 camera for home interiors, and New Horizons loosened it further for interiors and even allows slight panning when using the camera app outdoors. I wouldn't be surprised if more adjustments such as an outdoor free-look camera were implemented, and it could even come with a new bug catching mechanic.

There's all sorts of additional things to dream about if a full free-look camera were implemented, such as a first person view. We sort of got it already with the camera app in the New Horizons 2.0 update, and it really would be awesome to be able to talk to villagers face-to-face. Hopefully that becomes a feature at some point.

I wouldn't mind either way too much. I can think of a few times outdoors roaming around where it would come in handy. Digging for something that's behind a house, fishing at an awkward angle.

it would probably make me dizzy, but then again splatoon has 360 degree cameras so I should be able to adjust to it. it would be fun! rip tho to the outdoor designs that rely on the limited horizontal camera movement (like simple panels & some cliff builds) lol

That would honestly be a cool idea even if it would be a little cursed. I’d rather have them keep the fixed camera but I wouldn’t be opposed to that idea.

I'm not a fan of games with 360 degrees free cameras, so I wouldn't like this. I wouldn't mind if it was something that could be toggled on/off or only activated during certain situations (taking photos indoors/outdoors, doing something behind a building or at an awkward angle, etc), but otherwise I greatly prefer the fixed camera.

I want to say that a 360 degrees free camera wouldn't be a dealbreaker if it was implemented in the next game, but it's impacted my ability to enjoy and desire to play every game I've played that has it (Splatoon, SOS: A Wonderful Life (Switch) and MySims Kingdom (Switch)). It'd really depend on how Nintendo does it.

would much rather keep the fixed camera. not everything needs a free camera. the rolling log style (which some people also don't like) and fixed camera are part of the charm of this series for me personally. if they were to add a free camera, i'd hope for an option to disable it entirely.

a round rolling world with 360 camera Plus, a fixed town layout like all previous titles so if you choose, could return to birds eye fixed camera like it was. a simple toggle. Id love the option and would prefer they keep features surrounding a 360 camera like perspective changes from minimum to none other than a round world

^ echoing the above: 360 angles tend to stress me out !! i did wonder if they’d add it, but reading folks’ responses here makes me realize that i’d really prefer they did not.

hearing you say that I can easily see ppl staying in the old camera view 24/7. I dig that. What if some buildings went diagonal like AC population growing, and kept facing south

I really enjoy the “rolling log” perspective that has been present since Wild World and I feel like New Horizons perfected it, its not too noticeable. I LOVE that you can choose the Gamecube-Reminiscent top down perspective in NH!

However, I think change is good and would love an Animal Crossing game with more perspective. I think having a basic left and right angle turn would add a lot similar to this fanmade screen shot! Still forward but adds some depth ✨🍀

I hope so! Most of Nintendo's biggest series have made the switch to full 3D environments years (if not decades) ago. I don't see why it couldn't work with Animal Crossing too. I'd like to imagine finding a hidden cave or other secret area that wasn't visible from the front. It could make the series feel fresh and new again, without requiring a gimmick like living on a deserted island.

I wouldn't hate a 360 camera, but I also don't really see the point in adding it to the series. The fixed camera is kind of a staple, so changing it would feel weird to me. It would also change how the town layouts would work, since everything facing south would be weird. I'd be worried that it would change the feel, and make it feel like not an AC game anymore

Thats why I was saying the town layouts should stay the same so a fixed camera could be chosen if you want since it is a staple, it would be too weird to completely remove it. Towns should face south or SE/SW. All should remain mostly the same, but like if you want you could add stuff like caves that would be cool. To be playable 90% fixed camera.

See my snowfight 3D gif? AC could be like that, which would be awesome. The greatness of a limitation from old consoles given the power of new tech.

I wouldnt mind it, but I think they should implement the option of placing items diagonally first.
And the 360 camera should come with a small or maaaybe a medium map. Other wise I feel like it could be hard to find a particular roaming villager/player/npc. And I think it could be easy getting lost in someone else's town. A 360 camera has the potential of making a small map feel big or complex.
It just depends how far or close the 360 camera sits from your avatar.
Also, something else to consider in proposal for a smaller map with a 360 camera implemented, lag could come easier from items that are fully made vs a quarter made. Trees in the wind for example. The tree and it's moving leaves would have to have 3 other sides made vs just the front of the tree.

it would be hard with the way acnh is a log, but it may work but it way be nauseating so maybe it could be a setting so people who get motion sick

that made me think what if it was a 360 camera with the still rolling log thing. That would still be so cool. Although the log is meant to make it easier to load areas, it makes the birds eye camera so much nicer to be able to see the horizon. Back in the day they used fog to do that when this is a practical and pleasing design. I still believe in the sphere world to open for 360 3rd person camera. With the option to go back to birds eye. Fixed camera or free with the option of fixed
