Would you ever restart your town? I need advice!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to hear some opinions on town restarting.

So I've been playing acnl for about a year. I'd say I've gotten pretty far with the game, I've spent a lot of time and bells on my town and character houses. But, since I am a bit of a perfectionist, there are just some things that are really bothering me.

I have come to realise that I don't like the layout of my town that much, and I've put my mayors house in the complete wrong spot. I still feel like I have so much work to do on my town, and I'm wondering if I should just restart.
I'd like to have my town really in order, have all the villagers living in the same area, and put all my character houses and permanent PWp in better positions.

The only thing is, restarting seems like such hard work. I would definately still keep all my bells and belongings by letting a friend look after them, but I've spent so many bells on expanding my house and such already.

I don't want to leave restarting too late, I don't want to keep putting time and effort in just to realise I still don't like it. If anyone can give me some advice, that would be great! Thanks!

Also, since the year is coming to an end, I was thinking I could start my new town on the 1st of January. For some reason I just think that would be cool

I think you definitely should restart. I did that the middle of last year and I'm so much happier with my layout and villagers. It's a bit of a process but in the long run you'll be happier, especially when you get everything in place.

By the way you're talking about your town, I think it'll be better for you to restart it. I've restarted my town many times due to the same reason. I've tried sticking through a previous town of mine but as time went on, things started bothering me more and more until I eventually saw everything in my town as a flaw. Getting a fresh start is nice because it gives you a new foundation to work with. I actually just reset my town about a few days ago and I'm really happy with it! Just remember that not everything will be completely perfect though. Sometimes you have to improvise and that's not a bad thing.

Bear in mind that you will likely always feel like your town needs a bit of work. That's one of the great things of Animal Crossing - that there's no real end-game. The end-game is whatever you as the player decides to make it. If that means getting all your dreamies or creating your "perfect" town or whatever.

I always think if you hate your layout then restart. But then do remember that everyone is going to have something they don't like about their town. I'm not hugely happy with the fact that I placed my cafe where I did. But I would never restart over it. It's up to you if you feel like you can dedicate that time and effort towards it.

Restarting is always hard work, of course, but it can be rewarding when you find a map you love. There is no such thing as perfect, so keep that in mind. While a new town might seem great in the beginning, you'll eventually find a flaw or two. Try to focus more on the things you like.

I'm also going to throw something in the mix:

I've restarted a couple times now. Once a year ago and I took all my important items (large amount of bells, a couple favorite pieces of furniture, all my gold and silver tools, etc). It completely voided my reset. The point to restarting is to get a fresh start -- not take everything you own with you. It IS a lot of work, but it's very rewarding if you take the game at a slow pace and just ENJOY it.

In my second reset I didn't take anything with me. It was sad and kind of a kick to have all my work gone, but I look forward to playing every day because I'm working for all my stuff without going forward or backward in time to get everything in a matter of hours.

So my advice: restart, but don't wash your new town out before you even start.

honestly, i don't think you should, i think everyone starts to dislike their town after a while but u should know u picked that map for a reason but if its sincerely bothering you go ahead i restarted only once and that because i took a looong break and i tted a lot and it kinda lost the fun

Thanks everyone for your contributions, it's really interesting to see different point of views. The thing is, I do enjoy landscaping, and I don't mind putting the effort into it. It's just my ideal look for a town is pretty much impossible to achieve in my current town. The imperfections of my town, they don't bother me too much, I know that every town has imperfections.
It's just that it would take me so much more time to get the look that I want on my current town, then it would on a new town. Plus I just have so many ideas that I don't have space for in my current down because of things like the cafe, camp and houses in the wrong spots.

So I know that there will be imperfections, but it's the things I want that can't actually be put into my town now.

If you want to restart, you caan before you put in more effort towards the game which could be on the new town. I haven't restarted yet but, I think in your case it would be fair to start out new again since you know what you want and the fixes for it

What you can do is not play your game for a few days and try not to think about it (if possible). Then pick it up again and write down a list of what you like and what you don't. Then decide whether to reset or not.

It's your town, so it's your decision. ^_^

I just recently resetted due to my un-appealing layout of the town even though I had 7/10 dreamies and was well off in the game. My new town is so much better (the layout, town fruit, starting characters, and I even planned out what paths I want to have.)

Great choice! I took me a good hour or so of resetting maps and native fruits but I found my perfect line-up.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm prepared to wait, I think it'll be fun anyway. I still need to do some organising, I need to get people to look after my items. I still want to keep all my stuff

If you want to restart then why not buy a new AC:NL cartridge from Target when they have them on sale for $15.
That way you can keep everything you have worked so hard to get and transfer things to the new town by using a friend or a second 3ds unit. If you choose to get a second 3DS then the old town can become a huge storage unit, a townsfolk recycler, and somewhere you can visit without any interruption whenever you want to help get those event items.

I think you should restart. I did, because I was unhappy with my town map and the placement of my mayors house. it made my paths look TERRIBLE. I'm so glad I did. Yes, I was far and had spent a lot of time on the file. But now, it's like a breath of fresh air. i feel motivated to work on my town now that i'm happy with everything. It was really worth it, in my opinion. Some of my friends were even nice enough to hold some of my favorite villagers for me! I probably wouldn't have restarted had I not been able to do that. I'm very attached to this specific Chief. No other one would do. They weren't "that" one. You know? He's special, and I cant wait to get him back home in his new town! Some people think they could just go get a different one, but I had spent so much time with this specific one. His house is a disaster from all the crap he's made me get him, or that i've sent him, but thats what makes him so special!

Ahem. Rant over. TL;DR :
I think you should!
