Would you rather visit Norway or Portugal?

These two specifically, because they're both European countries that are popular tourist destinations due to beautiful scenery, but in contrasting ways. (Also, keep it apolitical and respectful, this is purely about recreational travel & tourism)

While both locations look beautiful, I would have to go with Portugal for myself. The main reason being the temperatures because I can't stand the cold, but also because I'm very interested in the Portuguese culture.

Portugal for me too. Also because of the temperatures, but I also feel like it would be easier to learn Portuguese as opposed to Norwegian (if I wanted to talk to most people there).

Norway. It just looks more interesting to me even though I hate the cold, but I don't know much about either country.
Mountains of stone are waay different to the flat plains with open sky I live in. Plus those colorful houses are wonderful. We need some color on our buildings too instead of these drape white, gray, and beige buildings. Sometimes we have blue buildings. And we are starting to get metal roofs on homes here alot more and those come in bright colors like green or red.

Personally, I would love to go to Norway! My grandpa's parents immigrated from Norway in the early 20th century, so I've always wanted to visit. I also think that the general architecture and landscape of Norway are very pretty - and the Aurora Borealis is definitely hard to beat in terms of "aesthetics". (Also, while I also have some "ancestral connection" to Spain/Portugal as a Hispanic person, I've never been terribly interested in visiting either country - however, I do hope to travel to Mexico soon, since that's where most of my ancestry originates from)

Portugal by far, for me. I wouldn’t mind Norway, but I don’t like the cold. I prefer warmer climates. Fun fact: My martial arts school was participating in this tournament located in Portugal back when I still took lessons. I wanted to attend so bad, but my dad was against it for some reason. He said the country had diseases or something weird like that? I also was never too confident in my techniques. I achieved Black Belt, but I was mainly into it for self-confidence. It was a personal thing. I would love to visit Portugal on my own terms one day.

Definitely Norway! I LOVE the mountainous terrain and the cooler weather is certainly more appealing to me than the warmer weather of Portugal. I also dig the aesthetics they got going on a bit more.

i honestly haven’t given much thought about visiting either (i’ve never been able to afford to travel, so i just don’t think about it), so i had to do a little research so that i could compare.

they’re both such gorgeous countries, but i think i’d rather visit norway if i had the chance. i can’t stand warm/hot weather, so the colder temperatures wouldn’t bother me at all! they’d honestly be welcome haha. the northern lights there also look absolutely breathtaking; it’d be a dream to see them in person

i'd do either of them in a heart beat, but norway only slightly edges out portugal because i wanna see the aurora SO BADLY.

Portugal because of the warmer climate. Not just mainland Portugal, but the Azores have also been on my travel list for a long time now and they're breathtaking beautiful. Southern Europe also has better cuisine than Northern Europe imo so it really is no contest.

Both seem really cool (gonna add Portugal and Norway to my “must see before I die” list rq), but I’ve gotta go Portugal. It just seems so pretty, plus southern European cuisine is amazing. The Aurora Borealis really tempted me for Norway though.

I've been to Norway, so I'll default my answer to Portugal! I voted Norway though, it was such a dream. I've wanted to visit for a very long time and it was incredible. I'd love to visit for a much longer time than I did originally!

Norway. I don’t know much about Portugal, but I have a fond memory of the first time I learned about Norway. My mom and I were watching Pole to Pole with Michael Palin, a documentary in which the Monty Python member travels from the North Pole to South Pole. I was already fascinated with the poles, likely because of the story of Santa Claus living at the North Pole and I was obsessed with penguins at that age and I watched Happy Feet all. the. time. The Poles seemed (and still seem) very magical and beautiful to me. Palin went to Norway after the North Pole and I asked my mom about Norway and she said it was near the North Pole! I thought that was amazing in and of itself but I remember people with short-sleeved shirts walking around outside and I was just fascinated and enamored with the concept of a land that was so close to the the top of the world but without the cold, apparently! I was a little Midwestern US American kid who didn’t know any geography back then, so it was just like a mystical faraway land to me. As I got older though, I learned about geography and I would still love to go to Norway! Specifically very northern places like Tromsø, Hammerfest, and Nordkapp, but also Svalbard (which Palin also visited iirc), the Norwegian archipelago that’s even closer to the North Pole, and the island of Jan Mayen if that’s possible!

I’m not good with the cold, but I’ve just had a childlike wonder for the polar regions ever since I was a kid. Hopefully my love for the places and the knowledge that I experienced something rare will cancel out the sting of the cold. Polar climates are so pretty and I really want to see a good Aurora display!

Portugal has its appeal, but it's too warm for me. Norway is really interesting and has a better climate, so I'll pick it. I'd even think of living in Scandinavia if it wouldn't be such a culture shock to me.

Based on the pictures, Norway looks cute as heck and I know my husband would love the cooler temperature, so I pick Norway!

I know a few people that have recently gone to Portugal (flew into Lisbon, specifically,) and explored around that and surrounding areas. Food & views were incredible. Definitely on my "need to travel here at least once" list.

I have been to Portugal a few times and absolutely love it there. The beaches are gorgeous and people so lovely and friendly.

I would absolutely love to see an Aurora. Definitely a dream of mine. Norway is so expensive though and there is never a guarantee.

Portugal! I think it looks like a beautiful country-- I also wrote a series of stories and a novel set in Medieval Portugal (particularly Braga) so I'd love to see the Medieval architecture, too.

I've wanted to visit Norway for quite some time now, but finances won't allow it. The Northern Lights look absolutely magical in photos, I'd love to see them for myself! Also, those mountains... I'd love to go hiking there.
