Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

Ugh amazon pushed back my pre-order to Tuesday. I would pick up a physical copy but the Gamestops around me told me they weren't doing the Collector's Edition in-store and I'm a ho for artbooks so.. ;c
That is exactly why I refused to preorder through Amazon. With the pandemic and them giving priority to essential items (don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're doing that), I went through Best Buy and ordered online. Got my free two-day shipping, and they don't charge until the item ships.

Now I just have to wait for UPS to deliver it...which probably won't be until super late in the day/evening. Sigh.

Same thing for me but I ordered late in the game when it went down to $49. It's rough but I just hope it comes Tuesday and that it doesn't get pushed back any further.

Just got my copy!!!

For anyone curious about what the game looks like in handheld/Lite...looks gorgeous to me! I guess for any resolution/graphics snobs...I'm sure they'd have an issue with it, but I'm not seeing any issues yet.

Hey Xenoblade fans!

Just dipped in for the first time a couple of hours ago - never played one of these games before, and they're not usually my style of game, but I thought from the trailers that the story (I like a good story in games - I love visual novels; Ace Attorney, Hotel Dusk etc) and the music were both really enticing, so I decided to download it.

Only had time to play a bit before dinner, but I'm on board so far and I haven't gotten confused yet which I was expecting to since I never normally play RPGs, so I thought I'd be stuck with the combat system.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I'll probably be back here if I get stuck or need some help! Thanks. :)

Okay here's a good one to start with, what items do you recommend buying early on? Also, should I just sell most of the things I collect from the ground? That's what I've been doing. I've also done quite a few of the side quests in Colony 9 - most of them are quite simple to do and you get quite good reward.

I'm no Xeno expert, but when it comes to JRPGs in general, I never sell all of my loot. You never know when you end up accidentally selling something rare, or something that can be used for a sidequest later on. Perfect example: the one quest in Xenoblade that asked for three blue chains; sure, they're not that hard to come by, but because I already had some saved from exploring...the quest was done as soon as I accepted it!

And as far as equipment goes early on...don't overdo it and get what you can afford. Personally, I'd focus on Reyn since he's your tank at this point.

Echoing @HopeForHyrule , I also never sell my stuff until my inventory is full and I only sell things I have multiples of (I always keep one or two behind just in case for future quests since you never know lol). Definitely make sure you're keeping one for the collectopedia also!

I also don't really have any equipment recommendations but I wouldn't waste all of my money right away on equipment. You get some equipment and weapons from fighting monsters anyway and later game equipment is much better.

Thanks, I really appreciate the help. Just curious, how many chapter are there? I'm only on Chapter 2 right now - I was doing quite a few side quests. I just came out of the cave and got the Monado.

I'm not 100% sure since I don't have the game yet (mine is coming Tuesday) and they added some stuff for the post game (apparently 10-20 hours worth of new gameplay), but it's quite a long game (easily close to or over 100 hours if you're doing all of the side quests). I really hope you're enjoying the game so far!

I'm really enjoying it so far, the soundtrack is really stellar.

The soundtrack is AMAZING, omg. I'm seriously jelly of anyone who got the UK collector's edition; I'd kill for the vinyl soundtrack!

I unfortunately didn't - it looked attractive for sure but since I wasn't even sure if I was going to get the game, let alone like it I opted for the digital version in the end. I really only ended up getting it on a whim.

I've just got to the Gaur Plains now. Really nice environment!

Just keep an eye out for Territorial Rotbart! 😂

But yeah, the Guar Plains is a really pretty area.

My copy just shipped from Amazon but it’s coming Wednesday now instead of Tuesday. I’m struggling trying not to watch other people play since I want to see everything for myself, but it’s tough. What I’ve seen so far looks fantastic and I can’t wait to play finally.

Sucks that you have to wait longer, but the game is sooooo worth it!

I finally started playing today (thank god. It's been a fustrating week) and I'm loving every minute of it! After UPS delaying my copy every single day this week today I decided to get a refund this morning from best buy and decided to go digital (not my cup of tea btw) as my only option. If by any chance my copy arrives I'll obviously will keep it as I love physical copies.

I've been playing it. I like the improvements, but I really wish they made the visions less disruptive in battle. It was my biggest complaint in the Wii version and I was hoping they'd change it here. I have no complaints about the Definitive Edition itself though, although I haven't played Future Connected yet.

I think the new OST is pretty good overall. There are some songs that I prefer the older version of, but there hasn't been anything where I've gone, "Oh, this is way worse. Change it back." At the same time, there wasn't anything that stood out as being that much better until I got to Valak Mountain. The Valak Mountain music was always really good, but it's so much better in this game. The day theme might be my new favorite. Granted, I haven't played the Wii version in like five years at least so I don't remember all of the original music, and I'm not finished with the game either so I still have more music to discover.

So how far along is everyone? I'm currently in Chapter Eight! I'm definitely enjoying sidequests more this time, since they added sidequest tracking...definitely a MUCH needed QoL feature.

I'm at the same point and I'm mostly doing side quests right now! I'm not following a guide or anything so I'm being really diligent in case any expire since I'm going for 100% for the first time lol

I absolutely love the QoL changes like you mentioned! This game has been incredible so far so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the later areas look like (especially Valak Mountain) (don't click if you don't want to be spoiled but this is probably my favorite area in the game next to Satorl Marsh at night)

I'm also at chapter 8 as well. Just reached Eryth Sea yesterday. That place looks gorgeous at night with the shooting stars. Hopefully I manage to get a third so I can do that one sidequest. I managed to pick up majority of the available side quest last night. Hopefully it doesn't overwhelm me. I was already stressing with all the nopon side quests I didn't really know where to start lol.

Definitely agree with the QoL. It's so much easier where to go and is definitely needed specially with how huge these areas are.
