Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

I’m currently on chapter 17 haha... 100 hours in, debating whether or not I want to do postgame superbosses or not, I’m having a ton of fun with this game but at the same time postgame feels super daunting

I played xenoblade chronicles 2 as my first game on the switch and I loved it, but i'm playing so many long games right now and I know this one will suck me in for like another 200+ hours D: help me please. Does this one have the same kind of gacha mechanic with the core crystals as xc2? That was one of the main mechanics that made me grind the game out so much.

I'm at the same point and I'm mostly doing side quests right now! I'm not following a guide or anything so I'm being really diligent in case any expire since I'm going for 100% for the first time lol

I absolutely love the QoL changes like you mentioned! This game has been incredible so far so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the later areas look like (especially Valak Mountain) (don't click if you don't want to be spoiled but this is probably my favorite area in the game next to Satorl Marsh at night)
Considering I replayed Xenoblade 2 I don't even know how many times, I'm fully prepared to give this one the same treatment, lol. So I'm not worried about 100% the game right away.

And yeah, Satorl Marsh is absolutely breathtaking at night. And I guess it's because I love the Nopon so much, but I also have a major soft spot for Frontier Village.

No, Xenoblade 1 doesn't have the core crystal/blade mechanics of the second one...which is one of the reasons why people tend to prefer the original to 2.

I’ve been enjoying this game much more than Xenoblade 2! The characters, memorable music and fun battle system have me hooked. I’m only on chapter 5 and it’s already one of my new favorites.

Welcome to the club! 😂 The OST is easily one of the best video game scores I've ever heard, outside of Final Fantasy IX.

i have been hooked, currently on about 70 hours, this is my second playthrough as i had it on wii (and 3ds but that was painful) and i'm amazed at how much the game has improved honestly, every problem i had with the first has been completely fixed

3DS was painful...which is why I'm so glad this was announced while I was still in the middle of playing that port. Don't think I've ever dropped a game so fast, lol.

I played the 3DS version but burnt myself out exploring and actively attempting every possible side quest I came across. I’m thinking of taking another approach with the Switch version. Anyone know if you can just power through the story without much side quests/exploring using casual mode?

You can. I skipped a lot of the sidequests (never even bothered with the Colony 6 stuff) and was able to power through, and am currently playing Future Connected.

When I start NG+ on the main game, I'll be attempting to 100%.

I didn't get around to playing this until Definitive Edition came out, and I recall really wanting the original game a few years after it came out and it being super expensive due to its rarity and I am glad I purchased definitive edition.

The plot really evolved well and had a lot of layers. Which in good old jrpg fashion ends
with killing a God
, but it was a fun journey there. Especially liked the environments and music, with the Satorl Marsh and Eryth Sea standing out in particular. Melia had a great arc, talking about characters, as tricky as she is to use efficiently for casual battling.

Riki was annoying and yet he had the best abilities so RIP me using him most of the game to farm chains in battle. Currently playing the extra story and his littlepons are cute and not as grating as him.

I'm curious enough to look into the sequel honestly.

If you thought Riki was annoying...you're gonna have a bad time with Tora in Xenoblade 2, lol. I actually loved the little fluffball, but I can understand where others would hate him. And Riki actually has some really sweet Heart to Hearts in the game, namely with Dundun and Shulk...so I love him more than anything and I will gladly die on this hill, lol.
