Probably what I do every summer; a long cycling or hiking trip and both with guerilla camping. Next summer I'm thinking about riding to Yellowstone, to the Pacific Northwest, and down the Pacific Coast Highway. Will be around 3,000 miles, +1k if I add in Baja California but my idea of fun isn't riding in a desert in the summer. Expecting to take about 2 months. How to make the time? Quit job, find another one when I get back. Same old same old.
That sounds awesome and something I'd like to do. My perfect vacation definitely needs to include some sort of hiking/trekking trip or camping. I also want to bike across south east asia at least once... that's always been a dream of mine.
SE Asia is a very unique part of the world but the roads are the wild west. Rented a motorbike in Vietnam and it's absolute anarchy. I know many people do bicycle tour in the region but I only really hear good things about Thailand as far as cycling goes. Definitely stay off the main roads no matter where in SE Asia you are, the rule of the road is the bigger the vehicle has the right of way and they won't stop for anyone! On the plus side the people are incredible, genuine, and quick to help you (a complete stranger and foreigner) out. Amazing food and a very low cost of living too (at least with the US dollar).
