Animation is a great medium so I think it's important/good that there's continued animated content that isn't only geared at younger audiences.
I grew up with kinda laid-back and young parents so I saw a lot of their shows and this included South Park when it started in 1997 and my dad had an "OW! MY A**!" sticker with Cartman from the first ep. on his car. Results may vary but I've seen SP all my life and I turned out ok, or at least I know not to let my 'effed up thoughts/humor run rampant when unnecessary. Granted, I don't care much for the last few seasons, it just isn't the same nor quality overall of the show's early seasons; then it changed a bit around season 6-7 and while the show was slightly different, some incredible episodes came out during that period; I stuck with them until about season 15, and anything I've seen from the seasons past that was fairly unbearable but some little things have made me laugh; their overall format now though is just not good, they're beating a dead horse and SP is probably still on at this point to for Comedy Central to make money from the ad space. I feel Matt & Trey should move on to another project.
That was really off topic though, this isn't a SP thread.
Although I have similar feelings about Seth MacFarlane; he's got three animated shows with the same premise, yet the guy clearly has some talent with say, singing; Family Guy was pretty good for some years. I like it more when I was 13-14 and I feel like that was a show I kinda did 'grow out of', it doesn't make me laugh as much as it did when I was younger, but it could once in a blue moon. Seth M. should stop with the linear family unit shows though and maybe go do broadway or something or hell I don't know, maybe write his own thing.
I branched off from just seeing stuff my parents watched to Adult Swim stuff (not uncommon for lots of people) which I thought was pretty ok (stuff like Aqua Teen Hunger Force) then I found some shows I really liked like Superjail! (I only like the first season) and The Boondocks.
Nowadays I still like the same stuff for the most part. I didn't see The Simpsons a whole lot growing up but my husband has had me see a good chunk of it and I laugh my butt off everytime; it's about the same for King of the Hill; we had a friend who got us into Archer about a year ago and it always seemed a bit strange to me and I had mixed feelings about it at first but it's grown on me to where now I'm looking forward to the new season this year.
I'm not too aware of other shows like these that have come out in the last few years; everyone talks about Rick and Morty but I didn't like what I saw of it.
There's a lot of super weird/funny shows like this though; I wasn't expecting to say so much about them but that's my two cents on the matter~
