Summary first: One of my villager interiors was edited slightly with the update and it makes me wonder if any other homes got changed. 🤔

For me, specifically Hornsby's. If you look at the (datamined) house interior viewer, the layout matches most of the images you'll find of his house when you search for it. I'll put one here for comparison:

This layout has always annoyed me, not only because it has literal trash in the corner, but also because of the clutter near the entrance (you have to do the little sidestep thing through the diagonal gap) and Hornsby usually started right next to the stack of cushions and instantly sat down on it, making it a pain to properly talk to him.

It looks like the developers noticed that too. I've been giving Hornsby a lot of stuff to help him with his home so the stack of cushions is now a yellow hamster cage, but I hope you can still see what I mean. (left is before, right is after the update):

Since I've seen others complain about impractical homes/villagers spawning next to chairs and always sitting down right away, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in interiors? If so, what changed? I'm really curious why they would spend time on fixing such a minor thing right now...

I'll have to check out my villagers homes later. None of mine have this clutter issue like Hornsby but this gives me hope they might change up villagers interiors with different furniture in the future.

I noticed that when you gift them more things a lot of the time they rearrange other stuff. I think that's what's happening here.

The items markers have been moved. Villagers will shift items around the house and cycle through items if they have a lot but the item markers have been moved. The markers where on both sides of the entrance have been moved further into the house.

That gets me curious about some of the houses with the infamous tree stump DIY bench blockage; ex: Monty, Poppy.
Maybe someone who has either of them could check in on that?
(I have both their amiibos but can't do any amiibo cycling for about a week. I could report back here if I notice any difference?)

I noticed a small interior hiccup after 1.6.0, but nothing as drastic as entire floor markers moving!
My starter uchi, Katt, had a strange half-reset of her furniture. Some of her long since gone wooden-block furniture came back and I just barely finished fixing it today.
I also lost her clothes hanger a few weeks ago after she got a hold of a bunk bed, and now it's back and clipping through a pillow 😬

YO, I experienced the exact same thing with my starter Ursala! I'm glad to see it wasn't just me! After the update landed I saw her display the wooden-block chair in one of the misc 1x1 spots in the bottom right corner. then I gave her a watering can and suddenly she's replaced the wooden dresser I gave her, that she had there since May, with her old one.

Interesting Ursala's took one of the 1x1 slots! Did she make the chair to begin with?
Katt never made the wooden-block chair and instead put down one she pinged out of my inventory back in April.
Then, post update: BOOM half-default all at once, including the OG chair in the OG place.

Speaking of tools and 1x1 slots, I gave Katt a fishing rod and it's been stuck in the slot closest to the door for MONTHS. I've tried to replace it but alas, I'm impaled by a fishing rod every time I walk in 😵

It took me this long to realize they probably did this to make sure every villager can have a stove or other cooking surface appear for Turkey Day without it getting in the way of other things? They mostly just seemed to appear in the place of crafting tables, but my starter Ursala had an ironwood kitchen (2x1) appear where she normally has a 1x1 DIY bench and a dresser, so that might've had smth to do with it?

Exactly what I figured!
There were a few instances I saw of villagers setting up over multiple room markers so they could cook in the corner, instead at their usual workbench area. Chow put a 2x1 kitchenette in a free 1x1 slot in the corner and stood on top of another marker.
Looking back at Hornsby's interior, I can see that it would be a tight fit if he had decided to cook in one of his corners pre-update.
Interesting that the uchis had a small house reset almost everywhere that wasn't in the ironwood kitchen slot 🤔

I have Hornsby as well, and I noticed that I wasn’t having as much difficulty getting into his home as usual. I hadn’t pinpointed what had changed, though.

I haven’t noticed differences for my other villagers, but they also didn’t have features that really annoyed me in the first place.

Speaking of Hornsby, I really like the approach taken here to get him to stop displaying trash. I really hate his furniture, but he was one of my favorites back in the GCN days, am I haven’t wanted to let him go. Maybe some targeted gifting would help.

Sorry to bump this, but I have the results for Poppy and Monty's houses!
Poppy's house has gone unchanged and so she's still locked out from the right side of her house, except for when her kitchenette is out.
Monty, on the other hand: I'm pleased to see that his mush low stool has been switched around and now he can go to the left side of his house!
Pictures included, because why not 😁

Ahh, poor Poppy! I have her on my island and have wondered about this before. I gifted her a microphone (that replaced the fire/marshmallows), so she will sing sometimes since she can't walk over to her record player.
