i think you should if you want to experience how the older games were. i bought wild world 3 years ago, i never got really far in the game because i personally found it boring because new leaf had way more stuff. the way i felt about wild world is the way i feel about new leaf because of new horizons. i keep wild world as a collector's item now but if you want to buy it you should, im just saying i dont think a lot of people who started out with the newer games (like me, i started with nl) would find much fun out of the older games since i think the reason why older players always go back because it's nostalgic to them

WW was my first Animal Crossing game (bought it sometime in 2009-2010). I recently replayed it for the nostalgia, but couldn't get into it the same way I did before New Leaf came out, because of the graphics downgrade and the fact that it's emptier in terms of gameplay features (no diving, shoe shop, nightclub, dream addresses, Leif, etc).

Another thing to bear in mind is that that the multiplayer community isn't really that active anymore, although you might find one or two people on the Wild World board.

That's not to say WW doesn't have great features. It has plenty of events exclusive to the game (Yay Day, La-Di-Day, Acorn Festival, Bright Nights and Flower Fest), plus some other fun little quirks (Boondox donations, Lyle's insurance, Copper and Booker's dialogue at the town gate, etc).

In 2021, I'd personally consider buying it as a collector's item and to experience how older games felt, but I don't play it regularly anymore.

I wouldn't recommend it. Back in 2005/06 I thought it was amazing, but when I picked it up again around 2016 I found it really hadn't aged well.

I personally wouldn’t. It brought back the most memories for me considering I was in school during the time it was released. I always played it on the school bus and after school, but I think the newer versions are better. New Leaf was a much better game in terms of content. You could buy it as a collector’s item, but I don’t think it’d be worth it to play it.

honestly, i think you'd be better off emulating wild world if you want to try it, especially since it's impossible to finish upgrading tom nook's store due to DS wifi shutting down. WW is a good game and has good dialogue, but i don't think it's worth paying for at this point. especially because -- personal opinion here entirely -- when i was younger i found it incredibly lonely to play and like i missed out on a lot of the game since i didn't have access to wifi. you might feel the same, or you might not! i still think it's better to emulate than purchase at this point.

i wouldn’t. the dialogue (villagers’ sassiness) is really the only element of the game that makes the game interesting. i think NL and NH are far superior in every other way

wild world is also on the Wii U eshop (if that’s still open) for like $10

I love wild world and definitely think it’s worth playing. Even today it’s my favorite animal crossing game of all time, and I think it has a unique charm that newer titles lack.
However I just want to warn you as crazy as it sounds bootleg DS games do exist and I’ve seen them sold on eBay, so just make sure it’s a legit copy you’re getting. :)

The game will probably work fine, but who knows if it’s a bad rom or the cartridge itself is poorly made.

^^^ Bootleg games are a thing that happens unfortunately, so make sure you check out the seller VERY carefully.
Anyway, I haven't played wild world much at all (I played it twice) but it wasn't all that interesting to me, since I've played city folk before I played wild world, it basically just felt like a watered down, less exciting version of city folk with worse graphics. The fact that you can't do some essential things in the game due to the old wifi service being shut down in 2014 also does not help at all, so I feel like the game will give you somewhat of an empty feeling. With that being said everything I say doesn't hold a lot of ground considering I haven't played wild world much, but these were my immediate thoughts when playing it. If I were you, if you have a 3DS I'd consider modding it if it isn't already and just getting a ROM for wild world and playing it on there, unless you want to collect every AC game the real way.

I would only buy it, if I had a cheating device. I'm not saying cheating is a good thing to do, I don't like it when people do it for advantages like Nook Miles, but I think in a old game like WW it could be fun to exploid it a bit. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. I sold my old copy some time ago, as everytime I picked it up I felt like it was so.. empty ? It was great back then but it aged pretty bad. :(

If it's cheap enough then I'd recommend it for the villager relationships. Tama Hero did a great video showing how they changed in each game and WW is definitely the best for the depth of the relationship and the dialogue.

That being said going back from newer games there's less to do (esp. since the events are not good lol).
