Out of all 4 games, Galaxy (the first one) was the only game I ever finished. I really enjoyed playing
it, I had lots of fun but it was also sometimes frustrating, at least at some points. I would say it's my
favorite, next to Sunshine, which I also really like, even if I never finished it. As for 64, I only played
the DS version, but like with Sunshine, I never completed the game. It was a cool game after all. I
never played Galaxy 2 as I never bought the game, even if I planned to get it back then. I only saw
some Let's Plays to it, looks like a nice game though.
Sunshine, cause it was the only game I played LOL tho I hate it so much cause I keep getting stuck in the same level ;( or maybe I just suck badly at that game
I used to think the Galaxy games were peak Mario, but I replayed it last year and I was a lot slower and clunkier than I remembered. Plus I forgot how much I hated the shoehorned motion stuff.
Of this list I'd choose SM64 if only for how varied it is compared to Sunshine. Of course, the "real" answer is Odyssey...
While Super Mario 64 is a fun game, too many people see it through rose colored glasses. The camera is terrible, too easily glitched, and has very little replayability. While I love Sunshine to death as it was one of my first video games ever, but I just don't think it compares to the Galaxy games.
It's definitely between Sunshine and Galaxy 2 for me. Galaxy is very close and had the better story and times atmosphere but I enjoyed 2's levels more. I think I'll go with Sunshine, from a biased perspective. It was a good chunk of one of my worst years so I'll always be fond of it. I think objectively, both Galaxy 1 and 2 are the better games but Sunshine has the nostalgic edge and is still fun to play through.
64 is a fun game too though, I just think it hasn't aged as well as the others. I think all four are great.
It's a little biased, as I've only played Galaxy 1 and Sunshine, and only beat Galaxy, but if I guess I'll choose what I know. I think Galaxy is a great game, with still impressive visuals and great music.
I've never played any of the Super Mario Galaxy games, so I can't speak to their quality or how they stack up next to the other two.
I think I have to give the vote to Super Mario Sunshine, though not necessarily because I find it a more solid game than Super Mario 64. I give it the vote because it is the only one of these games that I actually played to completion and Isle Delfino was fun to explore. Super Mario 64 is still a very solid game though, and I have nostalgia for it, especially Cool, Cool Mountain. If I ever went for a completion run then I'd probably enjoy it more than Sunshine because it's more traditional, but as it stands right now that isn't the case.
