A bit nervous for multiplayer/streetpass features for me :(

I live in Finland and the whole country can be considered as "in the middle of nowhere". I don't know anybody near my town who has a 3DS and I'm sure that I'll get no streetpasses at all because I've had my 3DS for almost a year now and I've had none so far. I think it's sad because I'm missing a whole feature by living here. I hope I get at least a few very good friends from internet to play with me so New Leaf won't bore me so much :(

I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you're the youngest in your family, I'd say still try to get them on board, maybe show them some videos and things (hopefully they have at least one gamer bone in their body). I have been able to convince maybe 4 people to buy a 3ds/buy animal crossing, and all but one is 16+ (2 are over 20 in fact). And when I had wild world I was able to convince some family members to get a copy too :)

But anyway, I used to live in a small town, you can't get any streetpasses there. But I'm sure sometimes your family take trips to the city or higher populated areas? Look forward to those at least XD

I would also like to comment on the streetpass ordeal.

I live in Prattville AL, which is a growing city 10 miles outside of Montgomery (the capitol, but it's a podunk little city really) with primarily people whom I would NEVER consider to have a 3ds and such. However, a while ago I decided I wanted to start getting the play coins from the pedometer and began taking my 3ds with me everywhere, and I am astounded at the amount of streetpasses I get. I now kinda base my shopping and errand ventures on what times I think places will be most crowded.

My suggestions: WalMart or other Grocery/Item outlets that are large and that have parents with kids, as that seems to be my biggest haul part. I usually go to WM around 10 or 11 AM because that seems like the time these parents do their weekly shopping.

Gamestop is always good too. A couple of the guys that work at the one I go to keep their 3ds on in the back for streetpass.

Other than that, bookstores. The bigger they are the better. It seems a lot of the time someone has one on in Books a Million every time I go, but it's always a different person.

Malls don't like me.

I live in Vegas. Not everyone interested in the 3ds. They rather do Casino stuff. :(
But my brother might get one . :)
Feels like society hates technology. :(
But I don't I love it. <3 <3 <3

I'm not a social gamer. I rarely use multiplayer options, and when I do, it's because I want something. So it won't be an issue for me.

You shouldn't worry about it so much, you can always kick people from your town, or just flick the wireless toggle switch.

As for street-pass, try busy places, like you said, airports.

Streetpass doesn't really work for me, even though I'm in a larger city, but if you're worried about multiplayer: come here. Like others have said, this is a good community. I do plan on multiplaying with people from here eventually. :)

You're too young to be so paranoid. You really shouldn't condemn an entire group for the actions of one. I do understand why though. I'm sure there are plenty of good people here willing to prove you wrong, if given the chance.
As for the street passing, happy home area, I believe we will be getting a "special feature". Since the rest of the world isn't so lucky with street passes. I think it's being rumored that people we play the wifi games with will get their home. Hopefully, this is true. ^_^
Anyway, hope this helps. You can always add people, visit their towns, and get to know then before taking them to yours. :D

I think its great that the original poster is worried about online play. It shows sound judgement.

I, too am worried about street pass: I'm moving to a town with a population of 85 people!

But I do plan on bringing my 3 DS with me on shopping trips.

Another good option is Club Tortimer, where you can interact with AC players from all over the world. There is no way they could mess up your town that way.

I wified too much in Wild World, the people I didn't trust I'd always go to their town. They never got chance to go to mine until I trusted them. I have a few friends from real life that play so I'm not too concerned at all, though I already have 42 friends on my 3DS. That could be a bit dodgy but hey! I'll keep an eye on who comes through my gates.

I find it hard to imagine someone from here doing anything like that. Just be careful who you let in and monitor them closely.

I only get street pass in uni just trust people, I know it's not the best way but can't you reset your 3DS if they do before they leave

I somehow picked up a Nintendo Employee on Streetpass, but I never take my 3DS with me anywhere, I had it on sleep mode in my house one time though....so weird.

Anyway, the only problem wifi visitors gave me(from other sites) were destroying my grass and picking up my path patterns. They did chop down trees, but I mean seriously, nobody ends up digging up the stump or picks up the fruit, so I know where to re-plant my trees.
