Everyone told her she looks just like her mother
They gave her the planets one after the other
But she only heard what she thought was all lies
She hid scars and flaws behind her false pride
She thought she could read everybody’s own mind
But if only she knew they see past her disguise
At dawn she smiled, at dusk she wept
She tossed and turned and barely slept
But if only she knew, if only she could see
She wasn’t alone, and never had to be
So she set off, a mask covered her face
Believing she would never finish this race
But if only she knew, if only she saw
Her emotions were pure, her emotions were raw
If only she knew she was always heard
If only she saw her expression spoke words
She fell as she walked, and she sunk as she sat
She just wanted someone to stay and chat
But only if she knew her words had strength
She shouldn’t have to keep people at arm’s length
If only she had known, if only she had cared
There really were people always there
They gave her the planets one after the other
But she only heard what she thought was all lies

If only she had known, if only she had cared
