Ooh, thanks! Updating now.
I had a glitched villager (Eugene) due to inviting them after being kicked out through amiibo. The plot is no longer sold and instead, it says "plot available" and there is no sign of Eugene anywhere. So sad my poor Eugene never made it home. ;-;
Let's hope they fix it in the next few days. I can see a lot of people popping their 300th balloon because of the events, and then, as they discover the glitch, there will probably be a massive amount of complaints on Twitter (which may raise awareness to the problem IF Nintendo still isn't aware of that)

Here's a quick, cleaned-up translation.
Fixed a bug where, under certain conditions, animals who had been invited from another island would not move in, and the vacant land would remain closed. After the update, this land will be reopened, and you may invite new animals.
*We apologize, but the animals scheduled to move at the time of this error will neither move nor return to their original islands.
Fixed a bug which caused Tom Nook to stop asking islanders to secure construction land for new villagers. After the update, if the island has developed to a certain point (Nook's Cranny is under construction or completed), an event will occur during the next island broadcast and proceed from there.
Fixed a bug where deleting a user under certain conditions made it impossible to apply for relocation of homes and facilities. After the update, you may apply for relocation again.
Fixed an issue where purchasing tools from Wilbur reduced money as well as Nook Miles.
Several other bugs have been fixed.

Yea it's obvious that it takes time to fix things, but it's still frustrating for a lot of people to have two events that require popping balloons going on, and having this happen.

Thanks for this! I had no idea there was an update ready and had my game running in the bg the whole time. This let me know to close the game completely and reopen it to get the patch downloaded.

It's less maintenance are more an update - you can just close the game fully and reopen it, and your Switch should prompt you to download the small patch, and you're good to go!
for hours already I am getting messages with ' maintenance will start soon' when I visit someone's island.
