Now that Gen 7 is (pretty much) concluded, there is one major topic that needs to be brought up, which is Alolan Regional Variants.

Please only respond to this thread if you?ve played Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon and beat at least one of them, but which one is your favorite, and why?

My personal favorite is Alolan Persian and Alolan Meowth. I cannot wait until the English dub showcases the episode where Meowth battles an Alolan Meowth, XD (if that episode has already aired, I apologize, but I don?t think it has for the English dub yet).

Alolan variants are one of my favourite things to come out of Gen 7. I was disappointed when they didn't add more to USUM. It was such a wasted opportunity.

I used them a lot throughout my Sun journey: capturing Ratata, Grimer, and Meowth early on in the game and later picking up Vulpix and Marowak. Vulpix was the only one that made it into my Elite 4 team and remains my absolute favourite of them all. I even bought a plush version! It was a no-brainer though that Vulpix and Ninetails would be my favourite Alolan form(s) because it's one of my favourite Pok?mon of all time crossed with my favourite type (ice).

I've only just started playing Ultra Moon, but I'm intending to capture an Alolan Sandshrew to raise this time. Sandslash just looks so cool and once again I adore that ice typing! I have one in my Sun game, but I only used it in battle once or twice while levelling it for the sake of my Pok?dex.

Alolan Raticate is going to have a special place for me though just because in the nineteen years I've been playing these games it was my very first shiny!

That’s awesome! I have an Alolan Vulpix plushie too, although it looks a bit different from the one you have. I ordered it awhile ago and have had it for awhile now. That’s also awesome that you encountered a shiny Alolan Raticate too! The Alolan Vulpix plushie I have is the only Pok?mon plushie I have from Gen 7. :D

I'm gonna have to go with Alolan Marowak. I think it's really cool how it's bone exudes ghostly fire and the markings added to it's skull are awesome as well.

At first I didn't really like Alolan Raichu, but after using one I've warmed up to it. Though I still prefer Kanto Raichu, it's nice to see one of my favorite Pok?mon getting some attention for once.

I think I'd have to say Raichu! Like MapleSilver said, it's great to see such and underrated pok?mon get some attention. I was kinda disappointing with its stats, but I love its design! The soft shapes and cute face are really what get me. Vulpix is a very close second, though, I do have to say.

Its stats are poor? I thought Alolan Raichu is pretty fast and has a good sp. atk stat?

Honestly it's not the best Pok?mon competitively. Its HP and Defense stats are garbage Its ability Surge Surfer is one of the absolute worst in the game. Surge Surfer is only really usable in double battles where Earthquake is probably going to be on half your opponent's team. Since you're probably using Tapu Koko to get the terrain up, that double weakness to ground is going to be devastating. If you give Raichu Electric Terrain, that just lets the opponent capitalize on its poor defense since you're wasting a turn. If you decide not to use terrain, then you have no ability. That being said, it is a pretty decent special sweeper if you can set up Nasty Plot.

Sorry for the rant. I've tried to use this thing competitively but it's just honestly not that great. I still like it though. Not every Pok?mon gets to be good in the meta, and that's okay.

What if it uses Surf against ground types?

The problem is that Earthquake is so widely available that it's often not even a ground type using it. It can be learned by almost any decent physical attacker, and it's so powerful that you don't need STAB to do major damage. Especially on an electric type.

Ah, true indeed. I am kind of sad how the meta/competitive game for Pokemon has devolved over time.

My favourites are Vulpix, Meowth, and Raichu- Alolan Vulpix is my favourite ice type, and Alolan Meowth kinda reminds me of Nermal from the Garfield comics, and then Alolan Raichu was part of my hall of fame team.

I also have a soft spot for Alolan Dugtrio since that was the first shiny I ever encountered in the wild! And also Alolan Muk, just for being all rainbow-y.

LOL, I literally have seen tons of Alolan Meowths while playing gen 7, and not once did I consider he could be Nermal from Garfield. It just fits so well....

Oh so no one is gonna talk about exeggutor? It has an awsome design: D

Alolan Exeggutor is one of my favorites actually, since it is part dragon type. Unfortunately though, it is not good at all competitively, and gets destroyed by pretty much any ice type move.

I think most of the Alolan form Pokemon look dumb. The only ones I like are Vulpix and Marowak. Marowak is weird though because he is a ghost and a fire type, but the one I am training only has ground moves right now.

Alolan Marowak is actually my least favorite, if only for the fact that its ability is Lightning Rod I’m pretty sure, and it was used a lot in Showdown for a long time. Literally a ghost/fire/ground type with that ability. >.>
