Amibo cards yay or nay ?

I had mine shipped but I know the Sanrio cards were with the Nintendo switch games.

I do have some mini cards and looked into getting some more but didn’t see the ones I was looking for. I had found a couple of penguin amiibo cards the real ones but when I went to check out they wanted 40$ just for shipping.
I was able to buy a good pack on Amazon for like $24.99 that contained like 40 different amiibo villagers (I live in America so prices may differ in other countries)

I think that’s what I paid for the pack I do have. My problem is wanting specific ones. Since I’m mostly interested in the penguin villagers and most packs either only have one penguin villager or none.

Oh yeah that can be a pain. I remember I spent like $5.80 to get Skye's amiibo. (No Joke thats how pricey they are) and when I got it, it was a big amiibo card whereas all the other amiibo cards I got were really small like the size of a Micro SD card.

Yea I was happy to find some I wanted they were between 2-4 dollars each but then they wanted to add the 40$ shipping and then wasn’t sure I wanted to pay that much. I still have them saved in case I decide to send that much on shipping. Just not sure I can justify the cost.

Amazon has a thing where you sign up for like Prime membership you would be able to get free shipping, but of course its one of those free trial things you have to sign up for (I always make sure to disable it before it expires just so I won't get any charges on my credit cards) so I was able to have free shipping when buying the amiibo cards off of amazon. I know how it feels like pay extra for shipping because that can be really annoying.

I would say if you are on the fence about it at all, it might not be worth the effort. Collecting cards takes a lot of time, effort, and money. There are a lot of people that really enjoy it as a hobby, and if that sounds fun or interesting to you, then go for it. If you are unsure however, the prices can add up pretty quickly.

I bought a bunch of authentic cards for resale prices last year on eBay, and if I could do it over, I wouldn't have bought so many. I wasn't going for a full set or anything, I was just buying cards of villagers I wanted to try eventually. The problem is, I keep a lot of my villagers for months at a time, so I am using them much less than I expected and they are just sitting in a drawer. There are some cards I'm really glad I have, but personally, I realized I didn't need as many as I thought.

I will have to look into that thanks. I know even within prime there are still some things that don’t qualify for free shipping but worth a try.

Yay, I think it's worth buying your dreamie amiibos at the very least, which is what I did. Fake ones are affordable if you're okay with them not being official!

I collected them back when they originally released for the 3DS version of animal crossing and the welcome amiibo set / Sanrio original run. It’s satisfying to look at in my binder to be honest. I even have the special CP kK slider and Isabelle set which are going for astronomical prices now a days.

My advice only pick out villager amiibo cards that you like the best. Ones that you can use of the villagers you like whenever you feel like inviting them to your island if you feel like you've wasted all your nook mile tickets and cannot find that one villager that seems to never appear. You don't really need to own all of the cards (unless if you're a collector) but just pick up amiibo cards that you feel work best for you.
I second this! I’m not much of a collector, so it never interested me to buy all the series. I go on Ebay and purchase official villager Amiibo cards that I really want. This is always a good way to get you toes wet as well. You wouldn’t want to begin collecting whole series and then not find fulfillment later (or regret it and find that you could’ve just been happier with collecting your favorite villagers).

I think there’s only been one card so far that I’m having to get an unofficial handmade version for my collection (which is Ketchup, whose official Amiibo is an RV one and so is too expensive for me personally—$50.00-$90.00 USD on Ebay. I might get her RV card when I have the extra money to splurge on it.)

i also love mystery islands and island hopping, but i’ll still piggyback off of everyone else’s responses and say go for it if you have the means to do so! i currently only own the 6 sanrio cards (and they’re not the official nintendo ones), but i’m definitely looking to get into collecting the other cards as well, even though i’d likely only use them for photoshoots at harv’s island.

getting into collecting them can definitely be overwhelming due to how many there are, but you don’t have to collect all of them, nor do you have to try and obtain all of them all at once! it’s entirely up to you to decide how big or small your collection will be, and any choice you make will be a valid one! good luck! :)

I don't have any Amibo cards and I don't intend on buying any. Why? Because I played this long without them and I am doing just fine. I'm personally not and have never been interested in the Amibo side of video games.

But I am just going to say what everyone else says if you have the means to buy it then go for it. In the end, it's your money, your decision and your game. I would however say to be careful because some places have Amibo cards priced at insane prices. On Amazon they are selling them for $50 for the 4 pack when each pack only comes out to $24 (5.99 each). They have inflated the prices because they know how popular Amibos are. Good luck and have fun if you decide to get them. :)

I personally find them to be worth it. I have a complete collection (series 1 -4, Welcome amiibo, and Sanrio). I had fun trading and I have zero regrets :) I love that I can have whichever villager I want, which makes letting villagers go easier and allows me to just let anyone move in with zero regrets of losing a fave character forever maybe. If series 5 adds even just the eight new villagers from acnh, I will be one happy islander! Bonus if they add even more new ones! Either way, you bet I'll be getting them.

Honestly whether they're worth it will depend on you. It's definitely a lot of money and time investment (trading, etc) but if you play the game a lot and think you might enjoy having any villager at the drop of a dime, I think you'll find it to be worth it if you have the money to spare!

First of all thank you all for commenting, most of you have said things that i internally dialogue with myself hahah ( over thinker here, have internal dialogues with my self hahah ). I love collecting things but hate that most of the time they occupy too much space at home ( also minimalist 😅 ). I will get 100% the Sanario ones as soon as i move to my new home in a couple of days, just because they are special card and the villagers do not appear in Mystery islands, which is a shame!. Regarding the other series, hmm ill have to think a bit more, I might go for it, but i still would love to haven my Nintendo Switch a type of like app or even within the ACNH game like an option to have a virtual card album. It would be more organized, more ecological, no need to make space at home and would make my life so much easier hahah. I would love to have a virtual album in my Switch so I could collect them all, I think if i had this option i would not hesitate to second to slowly get them all!

Dunno, will have to see what i end up doing, hahahaha

Welp, after looking it up on the forum, since the mods' official stance is that you can talk about unofficial cards, just not offer information on their whereabouts, I guess I could talk a little about the ones I'm going to acquire tonight while I wait for my real ones to be shipped here in January. lol

Like c'mon, I can't wait till January to get all those villagers I want, so these unofficial cards will have to do for now. Even these can be hard to get as the guy I'm buying from is missing a few cards (he's giving away Sanrios for free though; ironic). Cost me $650, and the official ones I bought from eBay cost me $1100+, making it almost $2000 worth of spending on cards alone. lol

Yeah, I really spent big on Animal Crossing alright. Probably worth it though. Probably.

Wait, those cards in the link mentioned by @Biancasbotique are authentic no? i mean they are in the box and are in the package. Why are they unofficial and how can you tell they are not official ?. Hahahah jeez I already feel a bit discouraged if i have to also worry in official and unofficial cards. Thats why i say digital album makes more sense, you buy them in our Nintendo store app from the switch and all good, they could even give the option to those who have it physically to scan them and also have them digitally in case they would also like the option, just a thought.

I do see the appealing to for example have all the NCP just in case and to be able to have them to make cool Harv. photoshoot sessions, once in a while i get bored and inspired at the same time hahaha and love going to Harveys Island to make some nice photos. ( offs just for the objects and because they do not appear in mystery islands i would and will to be honest also get the Sanario cards the other cards i still have to make a decision hahaha )

on eBay there’s a seller I got all my cards from and most of them were between $1-4 (some of the more popular can reach pretty high though, I saw Marshal was like over $50) and you can search by amiibo card number :) they all came in perfect condition! I recommend their shop:https://ebay.com/usr/tonys_retro_games

(edit: these are all legitimate cards)

I hear legit and unofficial so often, how can u tell the difference ? Just asking out of curiosity and in case i decide to buy so that i can also tell the difference

It all started when I had some points somewhere and spend it on a pack. initially I just wanted a few of my favourites, but that quickly turned into full blown need to complete the collection mode. I bought fancy shmancy card sleeves and everything.
What hooked me was the trading aspect - mailing out the cards, anticipating the arrival in my mailbox, finding pleasant surprises (cute messages, ac stickers, beautiful stationary) in the letters. Also the hunt is thrilling!
So if you enjoy these things I highly recommend collecting them.

-search facebook marketplace, garage sales, and out of the way indie game stores, a lot of the time people sell them for cheap and in bulk!
-only really spend big money on the popular ones like Ankha and Marshall, only spend $0.1-$2 or trade for the rest.
-if you get lucky and end up with dupes of popular ones, only trade those for other populars, or even consider selling them so you can afford the remainder

I haven't really looked into the market but buying now might be harder/more expensive than it was years ago when I collected mine. I'd suggest only buying the villagers you like.

Ooh, thanks for posting a seller here! There’s also this seller: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?isRefine=true&sid=hossjoeadam. I’ve purchased from them several times and they even have cards of popular villagers that a more affordable than Tony’s cards! So definitely worth checking out both and comparing prices. As far as I know, they are all authentic (again, I’ve purchased several times from this seller and bought Teddy, Maple, and Molly yesterday!)
