Amibo cards yay or nay ?

I have the sanrio and the season 1-3 around 50 or so in total for when i played new leaf.
Series 4 was not as widely available in the UK as the other series so couldn't get my hands on them, I think depending on who will be added in with the new series would be the thing that would convince me to buy them or not, I do hope they release more collaborations like they did with sanrio as that was a fun set of cards to receive.

Ooh, thanks for posting a seller here! There’s also this seller: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?isRefine=true&sid=hossjoeadam. I’ve purchased from them several times and they even have cards of popular villagers that a more affordable than Tony’s cards! So definitely worth checking out both and comparing prices. As far as I know, they are all authentic (again, I’ve purchased several times from this seller and bought Teddy, Maple, and Molly yesterday!)
Thanks for posting this.

I hear legit and unofficial so often, how can u tell the difference ? Just asking out of curiosity and in case i decide to buy so that i can also tell the difference

I don't think there are many sellers trying to trick people, so it's fairly easy to determine by descriptions and seller rating. Authentic cards are usually labeled as "authentic" and fakes are usually labeled as "nfc cards". If it says authentic and the seller has a good rating, it's probably safe to trust.

One obvious visual tell is the dimensions. It seems a lot of fakes are a little taller or have extra space at the top. The one on the left is legit and the one on the right is fake. That said, there may be some fakes that are closer to the original dimensions.

Another obvious tell is the back of the card. On the back of the legit cards, there's a reflective/foil border around the amiibo logo, whereas on fake cards, it will just be printed gray. This can be kind of hard to check in photos, but is easy to check once you have them in hand and you can always try to get a refund if someone sold you a fake under the guise it was real. Foil printing is not really easy or cheap to reproduce unless you have a printing shop, so I imagine this will continue to be the best way to tell.

Also fwiw, prices of individual card prices seem to be down now that packs are more easily to come by, so it's a much better time to buy than last year when they were more scarce.

That’s CRAZY. Thanks for posting a comparison of this. I didn’t know how closely some sellers could make the original series cards.

And yeah, I noticed prices are much lower than before, but it seems the RV series are still super expensive and hard to come by (at least for the more favorite villagers or RV sets).

I collected all series 1-4 cards and the welcome amiibo cards back when they first released; I thought it was a lot of fun and enjoyed trading with people here on the forum. I look forward to doing it again with series 5, so I’d say yes if you have the money and the time to trade with people, I’d say go for it because it is quite a fun collection to have.

Yeah, it seems the English RV cards haven't been reprinted like the others. A few months ago, I found a seller on Mercari who had bought some official Japanese RV packs and was selling individual cards for around $10, so I settled on official Japenses cards for the RV villagers I was looking for.

I know some people are speculating they may fold the RV villagers into Series 5. We will find out Friday whether that comes true or not.

from my experience you can easily tell when they’re unofficial. I’ve had a few cards come that had the wrong texture, cutting (like the way the image is on the card), and the wrong size (face or …. Depth? Idk how to call that. The edge of the card lol)

The ones I’ve purchased from this store in particular have been at least “Nintendo grade” (lol) and have been identical to the official ones I’ve opened from packages myself, so I highly doubt they are dupes.

Wuhuu its the first time i hear about the difference, thank you very much! its super useful, now i kind of understand what they mean and can also relate with the topic.

The original one looks so much better

Man!!! I wish I had known about this before I spent $52 on Marshal 😆

Yay, i dont collect them but i did get the amiibos of all my current villagers and it made it so easy for me specially since i only have 8 villagers and campsite folks cant kick anyone. I also like it cause once i get the favors nook mile achievement i want to move them out and back in so that they have their nice homes and outfits.

I bought some cards mostly just to get my favourite villager (Peewee❤) so that I could have the freedom to restart later and be able to move him in quickly. I don't plan on restarting anytime soon but I like to have the option there. I was lucky enough to get Peewee in one of the packs I bought so I didn't even have to trade to get him which is what I was prepared to do. I bought one pack each for series 1,2,3 and two packs for series 4. For me that was a good amount to get some variety without having too many cards.

I don't think I would ever want to go all out and collect all of the cards, unless they add some additional functionality to the amiibo cards like exclusive furniture items or mini games that uses them.

I purchased a few packs just for fun. I was hoping to get some of my faves (which are mostly unpopular villagers anyway), but I ended up with a bunch of villagers I didn't really care for. A couple of them were worth something (Pekoe was one that I recall seeing going for a slightly higher amount), but I was sad that I couldn't get just one of my favourites.

I don't think I'll collect them, but I'll still buy a couple of packets of S5 when they're released, just for fun.

I guess collecting them all could be fun if one really commits to it.
Personally, I only have amibos of Gloria, Olivia and Felicity since they were the last villagers I wanted for my previous island. I bought them online, they were cheap, easy to find and arrived quickly. But now that I've used them, I don't really have any use for them anymore. I suppose I could use them to get someone staying at the campsite for when I create a DA in the distant future, but that's pretty much it.
Also I'm thinking that maybe it was a bit too easy to get my desired villagers via amibo? I don't know, it was nice for the moment, but since I would like to play on one island for several years, I feel like I could have just been patient and waited to encounter those girls.
I definitely wouldn't buy packs; unless I planned on really collecting them all, I don't see the use for myself.

I adore having Amiibo cards. I have quite the collection right now. I don't know if I will ever have all the cards, but I at least want to try and get some more of my favourite villagers. They are stocked pretty well in a couple of stores near me so I can just grab some whenever I have the money. Which is kinda dangerous but whatever. 😅

If you are ok with spending the money, I think they are great to have when you don't want to spend hours island hopping or risk getting scammed out of NMT to purchase your villager from someone else... If you're like me and like to collect things, that's also a bonus. 😂

I think i might buy the Sanario amiibo cards because o well you need them 😅 and then ill buy in amazon the NPC because they might be cool to use for special photoshoots at Harvey and then maybe ill two AC series bags to have some villagers and then in a couple of month again a couple of bags maybe. I think most important for me right now are NPC & Sanario.

By the way, when we call like Isabell to Harveys island, can we change her clothes etc ? Just like any regular villager ?

Oh nooo 😭. I’ve definitely done that—always kick myself a little afterwards 💀. I’m definitely punching the air about not buying more RV cards before price inflation. 😑
HONESTLY AGREEEEEED. I have a few RV ones but man I wish I had them all

Just found out that Series 1-4 doesn't include certain villagers that are only available as Welcome Amiibo cards! Like Julia! Oh my god, I had Julia on Pocket Camp, and I loved the way she went "Dahling!" So it frustrates me that I didn't know about these Welcome Amiibo cards. lmao I've just bought all 50 Welcome Amiibo cards on eBay, but they won't arrive 'till December, so once again, I have to be on the search again for local unofficials. Sigh.

Also, the ones I bought from eBay are from China... so god knows if they're legit or not. It's a 50/50 chance.

I love amiibo cards! I finished all the current sets during the New Leaf era and I can't wait for series 5. I know there's gonna be a lot of competition now since New Horizons is very popular, but hopefully Nintendo prints more than enough to go around.

You don't have to get a big collection. You could just get ones for your dream villagers. Or if you like the idea of themed villagers like all wolves, all food, all farm animals, etc you can get just the Amiibo that would pertain to that. I do have a big collection, though, around 275 not counting duplicates or NPCs. I don't plan to get every single one, just the ones I like. It just so happens that this game has wonderful character designs and there are literally hundreds of ones that I like. That's just how awesome Animal Crossing is. I started by getting packs, but at this point I'm less likely to get the remaining 50 I want at random, so I'm buying them on ebay as single cards.

I searched through Nintendo's Animal Crossing Amiibo Catalog https://animal-crossing.com/amiibo/ to find out which ones I want and to get ideas for villager themes I might want to try someday. That's always fun to look through.

I'm planning to restart my game at some point for what I'm thinking of as the "Great Amiibo Playthrough" where I scan all my Amiibo and try them in my village. I've already figured out the order for all the Amiibos using tier maker. First I'm categorizing them by personality, and then by how much I like the villagers in each personality. Then within the same tier I'm going to pit similar villagers against each other. My "Great Amiibo Playthrough" will likely take many months, but since it also takes a year without time traveling to get all the bugs, fish, and seasonal items anyway I think the game will lend itself to a long project like that. I'm really looking forward to it, once I've gotten all the Amiibo I want. It's never occurred to me to try trading them online, so maybe if I do that I can make that happen sooner.
