Also, unrelated to the game and not really a name but I just noticed (at age 27) in that Madonna’s song “Like a Prayer” her name is like a prayer bc her name is Madonna like the Virgin Mary.

I got another one, guys! Rod the mouse villager comes from RODent, similar to Moose coming from "mouse." Omfg. How many more mouse puns am I missing?

Let's see... there's Bree (as in brie, a type of cheese), Dora the dormouse, and Rizzo the Rat (there was a character on The Muppet Show with that name). That's just about everyone I can think of.

Cece and Viché are a pun on ceviche, which is a type of seafood. This is actually pretty fitting because they are cosplaying Callie and Marie from Splatoon who are a pun on calamari.

Here's two off the top of my head:

• Kevin the pig is named after the actor Kevin Bacon. Pigs get made to bacon. I never realized that reference until a few months ago.
• Mott the lion is named after the 70's English rock band Mott the Hoople, whose bassist and drummer would form the band British Lions later in the 70's for a short time. That blew my mind when I found that out, since I'm a huge classic rock fan and I've actually known some of Hoople's songs before knowing about the villager. I never knew Nintendo would make such a reference I would love myself.

Also Aurora's name coming from Aurora Borealis, relating to her antarctic habitat.

Lucky's name is somewhat morbid, as it eludes to the fact that he's lucky to be alive.

Cole? Well he's just a little fluffy piece of coal.

Ellie the elephant is pretty self explanatory.

I love Fauna's name as it literally means all the animals of the forest. It's perfect.

Gwen, coming from the word penguin, is another obvious self explanatory one.

Patty and Tipper are unfortunate cow names, the first refers to poop, and the other is a mean thing people do to cows.

Also.. why Punchy? Does he like to punch?
