I’ve always been a dog person but grown up with both cats and dogs so love them both. I have my own dog now, a chunky little sausage dog called sizzle and he’s my baby ❤️

I like both but I'm more of a cat person. I have always had cats most of my life. Also, I kind of have a slight fear of dogs, especially the big ones, they make me nervous because when I was 8 I got bit by a dog. I don't hate dogs, I think they're great, but I can't control my fear, like when they're around me or I'm walking down the street by one my heart rate speeds up and I get very nervous

I like both of them, though me and my family have dogs often.

I want to have a cat, but couldn't because my sister is allergic to it.

First and foremost, I am a bird person. And although both cats and dogs can harm birds, when I leave my house, I know my dog isn't going to mess with my birds. I can't afford the same trust to my cat (much as I love her). So once my cat passes away (she's 14 now), I probably won't ever get a cat again. I think dogs are more aesthetically pleasing anyways, and I feel safe having one around, especially when home alone.

I think both animals have their unique charms and it's silly to pit them against one another. I tend to dislike these sort of Animal X vs Animal Y conversations, because you get a lot of weird people that wish death on the one they don't like. I understand phobias and trauma, but I think it's unfair to think there's not a single good individual of a species. Not saying anyone is like that here (I didn't read all the comments), that's just been my experience on FB and Twitter. 😬

I love both cats and dogs, and have both as pets, but overall I'm probably slightly more a cat person - I've always had at least one cat all my life so can't imagine a home without them and currently have quite a few more cats then dogs (2 dogs vs 5 cats), though if I could I'd always have a home full of both.

As you could guess by my username, I greatly prefer cats to dogs. They tend to be cleaner, quieter, and more independent than most dogs. I do not hate dogs and think they can be wonderful companions with appropriate training. I even currently volunteer at a dog shelter since our area doesn't have a cat shelter anymore. (I worked there too years ago.)

As a complete introvert cats are more appealing to me. I am genuinely a bit scared of dogs but am slowly overcoming that fear. May even get a smaller dog someday, if my two kitty babies will tolerate it. 🐈🐕🐾

Definitely more of a cat person. I like them both a lot, but I'm more quiet and laid back, so cats are definitely more appealing to me.

Unfortunately, my father and I both had bad experiences in the past with dogs, so I used to seriously dislike them. Slowly getting to really like them though as I think it was an environmental problem for both of us. My father was attacked as a kid on his bike from a German Shepherd guard dog, I had a lot of dogs growl and some run after me that genuinely scared me. I definitely understand dogs better than I used to.

But seriously speaking, I love cats. I've had them my entire life, but I decided to start volunteering for a shelter and rescue organization ~10 years ago, and made it a point to adopt special needs or unsociable cats that would otherwise have difficulty finding a forever home. I love the process of rehabbing kitties who are untrusting or even combative towards humans, and my cats are literally my entire world. It makes me sad when people make comments about how "cats hate their owners" and/or ignore everyone, as that couldn't be further from the truth. You definitely have to put in a bit more effort to really establish a close bond with a cat, but when they love you, they really love you. 🐱

I voted in the poll, but I don’t think I answered here. I am 100% a cat person. I feel like if past lives are a thing, I was a cat. We have 3 cats, 2 are littermates (the tuxedos), and 2 dogs. My cats are my babies though. They have been through everything with me and have been such a source of strength and comfort. I love them so much and I can’t imagine my life without them. The white one is Burger, the black one is Fry (aka: Beans), and the tabby is Doodle.

I've never owned a cat or dog and I don't expect that I ever will. As such, I like them about equally I guess. They each have their positives and negatives and it just sort of balances out for me.

In the hypothetical situation that I were to get either, I don't know which I'd choose. A cat seems more my speed in terms of temperament, in theory at least, but walking a dog is an excuse for more exercise and that isn't a bad thing.

I'm content just interacting with other people's pets when I visit. Thus far that has only been dogs, but I might visit a friend later this year and would get to meet their cats.

They're both wonderful! I love both cats and dogs but I'm 100% a cat person 🐱🐾💞 I feel like I understand them so much better, and I've had a strong fondness for them ever since I was a kid, always begging my mom to take me to the pet store or to let me keep the local stray cat in our neighborhood lol

I love their body language and mannerisms, how they only want attention on their terms and how independent they are. The way how some cats shake their booty in pounce mode is so adorable! And I love how expressive and affectionate they can be, how they rub on you and purr, how feisty some can be and how they can be so curious about everything. Overall I find cats to be a lot more endearing, but I also really adore dogs for being so playful and loyal to their owners. Some of my favorite dog breeds include the Pomeranian, Basset hound (lazy and derpy lol) Dalmatian, Cocker Spaniel, Pug and Lab 💖💖💖

dogs all the way! previously had encounters with a cat whilst walking and tbh i'm not a fan (the cat hissed)

update - maybe it was just that specific cat

Dogs because I’m allergic to cats. I prefer the small to medium sized breeds because I like to hold something fluffy and cuddle with it.

I do love dogs, but they're more of a "I love you from a distance" type of animal. I like to see them, but they're a little too in-your-face for me.

Ironically, I say I like lower maintenance animals like cats, but I've got a beautiful mackerel tabby with some issues that probably make her more high maintenance than your average pet. She had a broken jaw and some chipped and missing teeth so she requires a special diet, and she is distrustful of people as well as other animals, so at the shelter they had to keep her in a separate cage or she'd get too stressed out. For a while, they said she'd stopped grooming herself very well. But after taking her home, in just a few months, we watched her transform from a miserable semi-feral little beast who hid from everyone and attacked at the slightest provocation to the sweetest, most affectionate little cuddlebug with the softest, shiniest fur! She adores me and my boyfriend and cries to be picked up and carried around (when they'd told us at the shelter she'd probably never be okay with being held), and she loves to greet our visiting friends and family with little chirps.

I love and have had both cats and dogs, but when it comes to ownership I think I lean towards cats a lot more. Generally speaking, their more low-maintenance, independent nature suits my lifestyle a lot better, and there's just a lot to consider when it comes to dogs (especially where cats are also concerned). I love seeing them and playing with them, but I know there's a lot of dogs out there that I'm just not personally equipped to handle owning. 😅
