I'm hoping there will be a demo, so I can decide if I want the game or not. None of the Pokemon I tried on 3DS really interested me... they're great games but I didn't like the combat. Maybe it'll feel better for me in this new game? Who knows.

So, I'm really hoping there will be some kind of beta or demo, like they did with Let's Go.

If I have a Switch by then, then yes. As much as I'm sad to see some of the older Pokemon go and keep my fingers crossed that some of my favourites from the early generations will still be there, I still think the game will be enjoyable, I never had a full living dex or anything so that's never been my main interest. I also think it's important to note that if they did make the full National Dex for such a huge roster of Pokemon, they'd either have to push back the release date a ton, or force the workers to work absurd hours and it might impact their health. I think "boycotting" over something that's a feature in a video game and not actually an ethics issue is kind of dramatic, TBH.

No idea at the moment if I should give it a try or not. At the moment, I'm honestly not that much excited for the games, even that one upcoming Digimon game for the Switch looks more interesting for me.

Yes, I own a Switch and I see no reason for me to skip a generation.

I'm still going to play it, as I haven't ever skipped a generation since I first started playing it a long time ago. I've played every game since the original Sapphire version and I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon.

The game has left a sour taste in my mouth based off everything that’s been shown so far, and the fact that you won’t have all the Pok?mon is dumb considering they’re using the 3DS models anyway.

It doesn't look great. The missing National Dex would be a huge dealbreaker if my siblings didn't want to play it. So, I'll probably end up playing it no matter what happens.

After some thinking, I decided to give the Gen a chance. Yesterday's trailer was the reason why I changed my mind. I just like Doug Dimmadome Weezing, KISS fan Zigzagoon and the hungry angry hamster so much, besides Team Yell is so ridiculous, it's funny. The missing national Pokedex is to be honest not a big problem for me, I was never able to complete that thing anyway and since I always end up having a team made of new Pokemon only, I can live with the fact that some of my old favorites may not be in the game. The only thing I'm not sure of is if I'm gonna pick up the game on release date or a little bit later.

I will likely get it, but the lack of national dex concerns me. Ive been rolling with some of my Pokemon for the better part of a decade, so not being able to use them in the new game would definitely be a massive shame. With that said, I do want to try out the new region.

That ultimately depends on whether or not we get a Switch. So as of right now, no, we won't get Sword and Shield, but mainly because we can't play it.

I'm very unsure. Everything that has happened and all the posts popping up on various social media sites has left me feeling very bitter and upset at the state of the series and what could happen moving forward.

Though, I have to mention since every post about this topic never talks about this. People can buy the game "used". Idk why, but know one ever mentions this other possibility. On eBay, used pokemon games generally start appearing after a week or 2 of the game's release. If you don't want to miss out on a new region and generation, but neither want to support them after the news, buying the game used solves that issue. This is exactly what I did with Let's Go.

I voted no, but that doesn't mean I might not change my mind later.

So far, most of the Pok?mon designs look more like beta Pok?mon that were quickly approved of and the legendary Pok?mon are just meh looking to me.

Removing national dex would be a major downer for me, but if the game is actually fun with really good music, like Ruby and Sapphire, then I can get over it. :)

Hopefully it'll be good in the end.

I was going to get them but I had to sell my switch to pay bills. Food and a roof over my family?s head is priority. I will get them eventually though.

I'm getting it, but I have a feeling that the story isn't going to be that good. I mean, come on. With a team called "Team Yell", you know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas here.

The new Pokemon are pretty cool though. The only problem with the national dex I have is that I won't be able to take my Meloetta, who I've had in all of the games I've played so far, with me to Galar.

Yes, I will be getting it once I get a switch. I'm not crying about them removing the national dex. I'm excited to try new pokemon.

As someone who isn't really the biggest fan of Pokemon, I can't say that the whole national dex controversy has affected me. The game looks pretty good but my backlog is already too long and it'll get even longer when Link's Awakening and Dragon Quest XI S releases. If I end up getting it, it will be my first Pokemon since Pokemon Blue that I got way back in the 90's.

For the past few months, as I stated some time ago in this thread, I had been wavering on the Not Sure side of things. Since I prefer to construct teams from across all of the different generations of Pok?mon, the choice not to include every single Pok?mon limits my creative choices and impacts the way I've engaged with the series for a good number of years now. It would really suck to come up with an interesting team that I want to use but that I can't because so-and-so Pok?mon was deemed not important enough to add.

That said, after the 9.4.2019 Nintendo Direct, I'm now leaning more toward the Yes side of things. I really like Polteageist and what they showed off of the trainer customization this time around. Combine that with the other stuff I've been interested in this generation, like Grookey and Corviknight, and I feel like maybe I ought to give the games a shot after all.

I'm still not necessarily all that excited because of a few things: my playstyle being impacted by the aforementioned Pok?mon culling, the increased cost of Nintendo Switch games compared to Nintendo 3DS games, Dynamaxing feeling creatively lazy and doing more bad than good, the casualization the series has seen in recent years, and more. But, perhaps just because I've been so invested in the series for so long now, I feel like I ought to at least give it a shot and see where I am after coming out the other side.

I've usually tended to get both versions of the games with each generation, but for all of the reasons laid out above I might just get Shield at first if I go through with it.
