I've had periods of me getting burned out, but even with the amount of hours I've put in, I can't seem to stay away from this game for more than a week. I no longer collect anything, but I still play the game for long periods when I'm decorating Parkwood.
For Wahu, since it's been my main island since day two of the game's release, I'm taking an extended leave from it until I finish decorating Parkwood. If and when I finish every Nook Mile achievement on Wahu, I may stop playing the game overall for a longer period of time. I'm trying harder and harder to maintain my interest, but it's slowly fading away.
I'll say that the novelty of playing the game for the first time was so enjoyable for me, and I'll definitely get hyped up again once the next installment gets announced, main or console spinoff. A few weeks after 2.0 came out, my crazy hype for the game just died off, but I continue to have an interest in it because of how much I've played it. This is my most-played video game by far, and I don't think another game (except maybe all versions of Minecraft combined) will be able to match it as easily.
I really wish, however, that I knew more people in real life that played the game. That would have made me enjoy it far more, and would have helped me make new friends along the way. Alas, real life crap got in the way during the game's popularity peak, so I couldn't really take advantage of it anyways.
