Anyone a fan of either series?

I adored ATLA. It's such a marvelous series that had a light but very serious approach to issues. I appreciated their work in the fighting styles and the characters were great. Wonderful character development all around. It's so great to rewatch every time.

I really enjoyed LoK as well. I loved the animation and fight scenes, but I think supporting characters and each season's main plot were much weaker than ATLA but that's just me. Korra, Bolin, and Pabu were my favorites. I have yet to rewatch the series but I think I will sometime soon.

Who were your favorite characters? Episodes? Ships?

Discuss away! <3

I never got into Legend of Korra but I looooved ATLA. It was such a well done show. My favourite episode was the one where they were watching a show about all of their adventures so far. Ember Island Players I think?

A:TLA is probably one of my all-time favorite cartoons. It's one of the things that really got me into animation and story-telling. I also like Legend of Korra but not nearly as much as TLA. The focus on the awful love triangle trash in the first season left a bad taste in my mouth, and Mako was just an all around garbage character from start to finish. That said, I'll always look back on the finale fondly for being one of the first canon LGBT relationships in cartoons!

forever avatar the last airbender, had a lot more sentimental reactions to that series than korra. I couldn't really get into Korra nor did I really like the majority of the characters there than compare to the ones in the last airbender. I sometimes think korra getting with the gal was just to save the series since it was going down hill already nor did I really see any build up in how they even got together but I kudos to them ig

Atla is one of my fave cartoons ever. I could tak about it all day. Zutara for life Fight me.
I didn't watch Korra past s1. I heard it gets better, but I didn't like it.

I loved this show. I even read the manga. I was really hoping they would release more movies for it other than the water one but oh well. It was one of the best shows on Nickelodeon. Now all of them are horrible.

Aw, you should definitely give it a try! It's pretty fun. And yeah, that episode is hilarious! Good stuff.

I completely agree on the love-triangle & Mako. He got better at Book 4 but not enough character development imo. I think the series tried to get everyone dating each other too fast and prevented group dynamic growth.

Korra and Asami's development was very subtle. It's more noticeable at Book 3/4. Nick had a lot to do with not giving the show proper exposure & airing schedule which really affected the ratings. I do agree ATLA did everyone much better all around.

Zutara is great! They had a unique dynamic. I was okay with either Kataang or Zutara happening tbh. Or let them be an OT3. And Korra gets a lot better with the later seasons.

Shhh, there was no movie in Ba Sing Se. :p And the comics are really great. I hope we see more of them.

I really enjoyed both shows. I actually watched Korra first, and then Avatar. I agree that Avatar is the better show, mainly because it has a better overarching plot and it's more consistent. But both shows are definitely worth watching.

The show I can think of that's most like these is The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

That's very interesting you watched Korra first before ATLA. And I'll have to check out the other show sometime, thanks for the rec! :)

Oh, also - my favorite characters are Toph and Iroh. Both are amazing. It was a bit disappointing when Iroh's role in Avatar went way down in the 3rd season. :(

I absolutely loved ATLA. In my opinion, it's probably the most brilliant cartoon series ever made. Bending choreography was beautiful and imaginative and badass, the story was epic, and the characters were deep and developed over the course of the show. There's nothing to hate about this show. Even the "worst" episodes aren't bad at all. However, I did want Zuko to end up with Katara. I thought that would be the relationship that would have a more powerful meaning. Still, I'm not mad about Katara ending up with Aang. It does make sense, since they'd been through so much together.

Legend of Korra was terrible. That's just my humble opinion. Bending wasn't as beautiful or imaginative. It all just became a series of punches. Pro-bending was boring, especially when you compare it to the Earth Rumble arena fights in ATLA. Bolin felt like a discount Sokka. And Korra was an idiot and didn't even grow as a character. She was a homewrecker who RANDOMLY turned into a lesbian with the girl that she hurt by making out and pursuing her boyfriend. She ignored Bolin, who was much nicer to her from the beginning, in favour of Mako, who had a girlfriend and wasn't even nice to Korra at first. Basically, she is an entitled brat who acts impulsively and always gets her butt kicked. The storytelling was also very average. I wasn't engaged for most of it, and a lot of the time, it felt rushed and not well thought out. The moment Korra's bending was taken away, it was returned on the same episode, along with everybody else's. Anyway, I hope I haven't offended anyone. These are just the reasons why I think Legend of Korra is an embarrassment to the Avatar series. :(

Great show, was fortunate enough to grow up watching ATLA - it was really amazing and its storytelling and character building stuck with me until this day to be honest. Haven't gotten LOK a chance yet, mostly because I want to leave the old story as it was.

Right, it's not like bi/pansexuality exists or anything. Nope, everyone's either gay or straight, hurr durr.

Wow, can you stop being so passive aggressive? I didn't mean it like that, except that her relationship with Asami came out of nowhere, AFTER PINING OVER MAKO FOR THE WHOLE SERIES and hurting Asami in the process. Of course, I should have known that there would be somebody like you who would turn this into me being a bigot and ignorant ;)

I'll stop being passive aggressive when people stop saying things like "TURNED LESBIAN" and acting like a victim when called out! If you thought it came out of nowhere, then just say that. "Turned lesbian" makes you sound like someone who thinks people have to be 100% straight or 100% gay and tells anyone who isn't either "pick a side!!111" Crushing on one character doesn't mean you never crush on anyone else for the rest of your life, bud.

Dear God, talk about making something out of nothing. We are not talking about real life here. We are talking about a story that writers crafted. A story needs to make sense. It feels as though the writers decided to TURN KORRA INTO A LESBIAN to appeal to people like you. She's a fricking fictional character! She didn't make a damn choice about that. The writers did and it didn't feel genuine. I am not criticising her sexuality, but rather, the poor writing.

Besides, being passive aggressive DOES NOT help your cause. If you run into people who are ignorant about those things, the correct reaction would be to EDUCATE, not be passive aggressive and insult people. Seriously. I don't even want to argue, but you are really being frustrating. Are you not capable of being a decent human being and reacting maturely, instead of acting aggressively upon assumptions on what I believe based off of what I thought of one FICTIONAL character's relationship?

For someone against assuming things, you assume a lot about me ;)

EDIT: Gosh, I'm sorry, really. I want to be the bigger person here before something crazy happens. I am well aware that there are many different sexualities. But I didn't believe that Korra's sexuality came from a genuine place, but rather to appeal to a wider audience. That is all. My entire point about Mako was that Korra did not treat Asami right by pursuing her boyfriend and breaking them up, and their lesbian relationship came out of no where. If they had developed upon her character in a way that made sense, and she didn't completely screw this person that she ended up with by having no respect for her previous relationship, then I would have been fine with her being revealed to like women as well. Sigh, I don't know how to make this clear. I'm tired and irritated. It just didn't feel genuine on the writer's part. THAT'S IT. I apologise for offending you, but please do not make assumptions about me based off of my opinion on one fictional gay/bi/whatever character. I can criticise the way a character is written, but I would never criticise somebody for either loving a man or/and woman. AGAIN, I genuinely apologise, but you really took me aback with you being so passive aggressive. My experience here has been of people who are kind and speak respectfully and I felt like you were just making assumptions. If you want me to accept fault, then fine. Just let's end this because I don't want to put everyone through this ridiculous argument. Have a wonderful day :)

i watched ATLA with a friend who loved it, and it was such a good show. enjoyable all through-out. even its "filler" episodes were amazing (that theatre one, for instance).

i really want to watch Korra, but i keep putting it off for some reason. i've even got the the on steam in anticipation of finishing it.

I LOVED Avatar: The Last Airbender so much! That show was amazing and I was a huge fan of Zuko from day 1! I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed his journey throughout the series! I will admit I was (and still am) a Zutara girl, but ah well! My other favorite characters were probably Iroh and Toph! All amazingly well done! ^-^

I will be honest. I never watched Korra, and I do not intend to do so. Hearing the synopsis and seeing the previews completely turned me off of the series. I do not like the steampunk-esque direction it went and it just wasn't for me. I'm sure it is a wonderful series though. I just prefer to keep the old world in my mind and don't want to see what happened in the future.

Relax, all I did was call out your wording in your first post. I didn't call you bigot or ignorant, so stop projecting.

Last time I checked, a character being bisexual makes perfect sense. IIRC, the writers themselves wanted Korra to end up with Asami from the start, but they only got the go-ahead during the final season. If you want to criticize the writing, fine by me, but turning lesbian just isn't a thing.

I'm sorry, did I not educate you that bi/pansexuality was a thing. Because I did. And I don't think I ever insulted you, but if I did, I apologize. Next time I will respond maturely, which I'm assuming involves the use of RANDOM CAPS LOCK.

Please point out where I assumed the slightest s*** about you. You said I made you out to be a bigot and ignorant so tell me when that happened, hm? :lemon:

"I didn't call you bigot or ignorant, so stop projecting." (This basically is still calling me a bigot and ignorant, but okay..)

That's what you said. That's pretty much assuming what I believe. You told me this and have since responded with such disrespect and passive aggressiveness that I just got taken aback. I sincerely apologise for the random caps, lol. I'm actually just really frustrated and it came out that way. I didn't take the time to gather my thoughts to put it all down properly. But I don't want to defend myself anymore.

Anyway, please read my edit on my previous post. I don't want to argue with you. I'm tired and I haven't slept yet. Sorry for offending you. But I don't have the energy. I'll just accept what you have to say about me, so let's just let this thread get back to what it was meant to be, which is just a simple fun discussion about these series. :)
