Bad RNG Rant

I really couldn't do island hopping for a single villager because of the terrible RNG (unless they're an octopus).

The bad RNG I get in the games is that Gulliver gave me 1 large object (the Pyramid) so far. The rest have been hairstyles and the horse
Just an aside but my dad loves the Dala horse. I went out and bought the full set for Father’s Day. I haven’t had the best of luck for items myself but I’ve gotten a couple valuable Gulliver items (the pagoda comes to mind). Gullivarr has only given me clothes but I’ve only gotten him once so that’s not a good metric to base my luck on.

Just a question. I never island hop for specific villagers. I just have a personality on mind, and go through maybe 10-20 tickets to see who I can end up with.

With specific villagers, I either amiibo them, or buy from others with NMT.

Do people that spend hundreds fo NMT island hopping for desired villagers - do you do it for the fun of it? Because I think going through 100 tickets at a time can be pretty draining.

How do you use the horse in decorating?

I've had bad RNG finding cats on mystery islands. I know I'm only looking for Kiki and Lolly, so the odds are extremely low for one of them to appear.

But at least spawn a cat so I can have a chance of seeing them.

I have gotten two villagers from other people before, so this time I just wanted to try and see if it was possible for me to encounter them myself. It is draining for sure, especially when you see the same few villagers for a number of times. But at the same time it's fun in a way because I get to meet villagers that I've never heard of before and even though I'm not inviting them, I could still talk to them on that mystery island.
I don't really have much to do this week so I thought I might as well challenge myself finding Dom on my own.

I’m sorry about your luck! It seems like I’m at the opposite end of the bell curve (I’ve found most of my dreamies within ten NMT during hunts). How many sheep villagers do you have? The chances for one specific villager increases whenever you take villagers that share a species with them. That’s probably why I was able to find my #1 dreamie so quickly (I had 2 eagles when I got Sterling).
Unfortunately I don't have any sheep on my island that's probably why I've been so unlucky finding Dom. I've documented my trips and I have a pretty low encounter rate with sheep. Anteaters, wolves and horses are my most seen species.

Update: found Raymond on my 396th ticket but still no sign of Dom 😤 my second time passing on Raymond now

I spent like 200 or more tickets on Chester. That was the only time I went hunting for one villager in particular, and honestly probably the last time! It was very difficult, because if you think about it, the chances of you getting a specific villager out of 300+ is pretty grim. I am very thankful I found him before I used up all my tickets and lost all hope.

I have also had pretty terrible "luck" with visiting NPCs before they changed things in the update, and also prizes Gulliver sends you. Besides the lucky cat he sent me the very first time, I have gotten "useless" stuff to me like certain wigs, hats, etc. and the tower of Pisa. It feels like I've gotten every item I do not want, plus paired with the fact I had only gotten him a few times since starting the game in March, it was pretty frustrating

Now I know how lucky I was to find Audie on my 44th (or 41st, the number just slipped my mind) ticket. She was the only option and, yeah, that was good luck.

I'm so sorry you're having trouble. I can understand the frustration. I'm not sure if you already have your dreamies but I think depending on the personality types of all your villagers, you're less likely to bump into Dom if you already have a few jocks. But please don't give up, I really hope you can find him or at the very least find someone who can give him to you if you decide to go down that route.

I spent about ~360 tickets to find Dom. I spent maybe another 500 afterwards for Raymond with no luck.

The luckiest I got is finding Judy in the campsite but that's about it

Another suggestion is, if you have a second Switch or planning to have one soon, and a second ACNH copy, or you know someone who's kind enough and at the process of restarting their island, you can try to reset Dom there until you get him as one of your starting villagers (it is always jock/uchi) then move him later on in your main island. This is probably the easiest way to find him, that is if you have the resources.

I’ve used about 200 NMT in vain searching for Dom or Roald so I could get a jock villager. I’ve given up now and ordered Roald’s amiibo from aliexpress. I was never a big fan of Raymond or Audie, but I came across both in my hunt. It’s funny how the game seems to know who you’re looking for and avoids making them appear

oof i feel this. island hopping can be hella frustrating but finding your dream villagers is possible and it’s a wonderful surprise when it manages to happen. good luck <3

Update 07/17 - I've spent 500 tickets so far but still no luck on finding Dom.

Popular villagers that I've run into: Raymond, Audie, Sherb, Lolly, Diana, and many more.

Have only seen sheep 12 times during these 500 trips. Saw Frita 3 times; Wendy, Timbra, Curlos twice; Willow, Cashmere, Vesta once.

Ran into a few Jocks that I really like (Genji, Stinky, Snake) but had to pass because I'm determined to find Dom this time.

Will continue my challenge tomorrow!

Trust me, I know that feeling. It took me 2,100 tickets to find Lucky. Fortunately for me during that hunt, I found Judy multiple times, and Audie multiple times to fund the hunt. When I finally found him, I couldn't believe it (literally months later). It was definitely a SUPER satisfying feeling to finally encounter him though, rather than just buy him from Nookazon. :)

During that entire time I never ran into Raymond either. I finally got Raymond for the first time at around 3,200 total tickets used (which was earlier this week).
Lucky was in my campsite yesterday. :)

I am getting upset about island hopping in general. I just unloaded most of my Nook Miles tickets today. I am ready to move on. I am sorry Judy.

Yes with every NMT the mood slowly drops :') It's so hard sometimes to get dreamies. But I must say I had a lot of luck with most of my villagers :p Erik, Raymond and some more of my favs were there within 15 NMT's :D

RNG is like that. Funnily enough, I found three of the five villagers you mentioned all in very few tickets. I found Lucky on my third ticket today and passed because I don’t like lazies. My dream villagers are Merengue, Coco and Diana though and I’ve never found them. It’s like the game knows who you want and gives you everyone else haha.

I’m having the worst luck with Pascal too. I took a few weeks off so I’m trying to farm the mermaid set in the days I missed. The last 6 days in a row he gave me pearls instead of a DIY. 🙃
