So! I noticed something interesting today.
It appears we have more hidden friendship type meters with our villagers aside from obtaining their pictures.

How often we interact with our villagers improves their dialogue, allows you to give them gifts on a whim, will have them ping you more, and now I've started getting requests and random gifts!

This is all from the villagers I talk to the most. The ones I do not (CURSE YOU CHOPS) are still giving me one sentence responses, I cannot give them gifts, and they do not ask me for help with anything/are less likely to ping me despite being on my island just as long.

So! Theres still hope for dialogue after all c: I mean... it's sort of like irl where first meeting someone you're usually more reserved and keep to yourself then eventually open up!

How long did it take to get them to ping you and make requests? I’m only on day three but I talk to my villagers a lot and haven’t had a single ping or request :/

That's great to hear. I was honestly super disappointed these past few days because the trailers all had such great dialogue and I was just getting a few words. :lemon:

I have been time traveling a lot back/forth so I cant say! But if you are progressing naturally it may take some time since the game does move slowly. I would give it 1-2weeks maybe.

I'm glad you posted this because I've seen a lot of complaints about the villager interactions. I currently only have my two starters, and Marina is unpacking today....But I have been talking to my starters A LOT every day because I absolutely adore them (Reneigh and Sparro). I'm on day 4, but I'm getting a lot of varied dialog. They are also asking me for favors and giving me tons of gifts. They aren't pinging for the favors though, they just come up in conversation.

Just today Sparro has asked me for 3 bugs and a fish and gave me new clothes every time. Reneigh has given me two DIY recipes and some clothes today.

I've been able to talk to one until they're busy thinking, then go do the same to the other. After talking to the second villager the first one is already ready to talk again.

Of course there is some repeated dialogue, but I'm getting a pretty good variety!

I noticed this too! With Rowan I now have the dialogue option "this is for you" whenever I talk to him! He also gives me gifts and helps me with tasks

Weird... I thought Pashmina hated me, and now she’s being all friendly. She even asked for a favor. Came out of nowhere, lol.

Well, this time around I was inside her tent, and both my villagers are always outside. Maybe she opens up more in the comfort of her own home, lol.

This all just happened.

I started playing on Friday and I don’t time travel. So it’s been 3 days for me.

i'm so caught up in whatever i'm doing that i often overlook talking to my villagers. it's nice to hear that they open up with more dialogue and requests the more you talk to them! i'll definitely make it a point now to interact with them way more

I have that same problem; I'll get so caught up in everything else I'll forget to talk to everyone ; u;
