I was the same, I only learnt the basics by playing EpicMafia for a bit tbh

Forum IRC doesnt work a lot of the time
Use http://mibbit.com/ to access it

Go to "Launch Mibbit Client"

For "connect," select "GeekShed [WebIRC]"
then search #belltree and some options should come up
(I think, i dont use mibbit for irc)
