I think it breaks down to if you're going to use it in public, or some sort of public eye or not. The 2ds is ugly as sin, and the 3ds's look really nice. I would much rather be seen with a sleek and shiny 3ds than a door stopper.

Get a new system if its like that

If not, keep it! 2ds's are pretty bad in my opinion

I think the 3DS is way easier to carry around than the 2DS and definitely agree with the above poster ^^

I have a red one and a blue one, and they look so nice. And I bought matching styli for very cheap xD

If I was to get a 2DS, it would not be taken outside, I have a New 3DS XL for that. If I was to get a 2DS, it would be used for multiplayer for guests and for StreetPassing myself.

Well, the damage isn't visible. The left shoulder button does not work due to a self-repair job and the Game Card slot no longer reads physical DS/3DS games.

I would keep it, but maybe that's because I get way to emotionally attached to things.
I am kind of the same way. (I have a class shirt from my 5th Grade class, I'm a senior in high school for age reference) However, when it comes to electronics, I feel if it is broken, it needs to be replaced. I wanna replace an iPod Touch 2nd Gen that was my first iPod and an basically, my first smartphone-like device. I now use an iPod Nano 3rd Gen in place of, but I have to use it every once for school.

Updated the first post! However, due to some confusion, (Maybe from some people not reading the first post...) I will put a little FAQ in this post to clear up confusion.

Frequently Asked Questions:
General Questions:
How old are your niece and nephew?
  • They are 14, they are going into high school next school and know how to handle electronics responsibly.
2DS Questions:
Are you going to take the 2DS outside?
  • No, the 2DS will stay at home as it is intended for multiplayer with friends and family.
Aren't you worried the screens getting damaged?
  • The 2DS will be stored in a safe place, in a case.
3DS Questions:
Which model of 3DS do you plan on replacing your original 3DS with?
  • I am open to any model really, but I am most likely going to get another 3DS, mainly because it has lasted up until December 2014 and feels like it a brick compared to the XL.

If I were you, I'd just get it repaired.

That picture is actually of my 3DS XL at it's current state, and I need a new one badly

Well, the left shoulder button has since been repaired, leaving only the Game Card slot to be repaired. While I could make do with just downloading games, I would rather not do this as I would rather invest my eShop funds into games on my personal 3DS. I want a repair to be made, I just am not very trusting of others trying to repair it. Two screws (One on the battery cover and one on a corner of the 3DS internally) are stripped, with the latter not able to be taken off, so that would also add to repair costs.

After some thought and from everyone's opinion, I decided to buy a another original 3DS to replace my broken original 3DS. I won't buy it right away as I will be tight on money by the end of May and I want to save for a car. Luckily, I was able to repair the left shoulder button on the broken 3DS, leaving only the Game Card slot to be repaired. I do not want to repair the broken 3DS as I feel it would degrade it for me and any money spent on repairs should be spent towards a replacement.
