I just cannot catch one of these things! I've tried the hide your net until the last second thing but they always commit suicide off the map before I can get them!!! Any tips???

I always get my net out, where they can't see me and then creep up to them with my net out. They will turn around and make noise, but they won't attack.

I just let it chase me down a straight path and when I put enough distance between me and it, and then I turn around and catch it
:v

When I did my tarantula hunting, I had my net out the whole time. (Bold move, I know) I would walk around and when I see the tarantula I would stop. If the tarantula doesn't run up to me, I hold down A and creep up to it, if it does run, I run. The tarantula will look at you and when this happens, I would stop or move like a little inch closer, and then it will turn and move again. We played a game called You Move, I Move. Every time the tarantula moved, I moved closer to it and eventually, it was in the net's range so I let go.

And this is when I caught my first tarantula ever in history. Just don't give up!

I keep my net out, but go into sneak mode with my net raised as I slowly approach them. A standoff ensues, where they slowly creep left/right/closer to try to throw off your aim. Then you have to wiggle so you know you have a clear shot... then you swing! And they either leap up to bite you or you catch them.

Try hunting for them at your town plaza or in front of your ReTail. I've heard of lots of people who caught their tarantulas on the cobblestones of their town plaza, and I always see tarantulas in front of my ReTail. If worse comes to worse, try forcing them to spawn by Saving and Continuing in those two areas (or if you're in front of ReTail, entering and exiting). Saving and Continuing will reset all bugs in the area and spawn new ones, although it's hard to say whether or not it's more boring than just running around aimlessly. This method might also work better since you said that you have a lot of trees, and I guess running around doesn't really help to spawn them. It also doesn't hurt to run around and scare away all other bugs on trees and whatnot.

My plaza is more. In the north and I thought they spawn in the south?

You actually seem pretty lucky since you're running into so many tarantulas. Most people have trouble running into them, let alone catching them!

And, no? Tarantulas spawn everywhere. I've seen them plenty of times up north. Why would tarantulas only spawn in the south? o.o

Yes, this is where I caught my tarantula. At the Town Plaza.

Idk I read it somewhere and it seems consistent with my town, they're always towards the bottom of the map for me

Will they spawn on paths?

Hi Charming! Sorry that you've not caught this insect yet; some points to consider:

1. Don't run, always walk.
2. Net or no net, you can still catch it if you spot it early.
3. Should it begin chasing you, sprint to the Town Tree & circle it until the spider gives up... then walk towards it & make sure it's within range before netting.
4. Spiders & scorpions will leap into rivers & cliffs.

Good luck, Charming! =)

Even if the tarantula is gone starting this month, have you considered ridding every single tree and eliminating/storing flowers? They will definitely make the hunt easier, since there are less types of bug that can spawn, in which would bring down to 5-6 possible types starting at 7PM.
I did that my main town, and I managed to grab at least two giant petaltails that way.

My town is just so developed that I just can't do this lol I think I'll keep tting back to the last day of August until I catch one, then move forward /orz

Well there really isn't anything you can do... Chopping down trees is a pain but it works. Having lots of community projects won't help either because it makes your town "cramped" so they have less places to spawn ect ect
