Character Removal

I just realized something... So, since Animal Crossing switch is coming out next year, what if they remove character such as Isabelle from the game? Because they may take a turn away from being the manager of the town and may go back to a regular citizen. Or Tom Nook and his shop is replaced and managed by the HHA crew (Excluding Tom Nook)
I personally hope this doesn't happen because I love all characters, what characters would you hate to see go or possibly would you want to leave?

tbh I'd be amazed if ones such as nook, redd, resetti, etc left. given they've been a cornerstone staple of the games since the start. and isaelle seems way too popular to just drop off

if any special npcs were to leave, I'd imagine it'd be less notable/popular ones such as kicks and leif

I don’t think they will remove any NPCs but maybe they’ll be given different/lesser roles. I hope they don’t remove visiting NPCs though, especially Phineas!! I love seeing him waddling around town. I never collect my badges so he can chill in my town like a permenant villager haha.

What I keep imagining to happen is that they're just moved to lesser important roles.
We've seen this a bit in New Leaf, where Nook doesn't directly control the store anymore, and that he does something slightly different.
A lot of people really enjoy these characters, so I find it hard to believe that they'd just remove them, or at least not mention them somehow in the next game if they didn't have a direct role.
I think I've heard mention that the penguins will be in the newer game (I'm not sure if this is still a thing.), but I think they may possibly have a role that overlaps with our current characters, or at least the new game's character lineup will be effected with their role.

tbh I liked the whole mayor thing in New Leaf, but I definitely would not be opposed to being a regular citizen. As for NPCs, I've grown attached to a lot of them so I'd be pretty sad to see some go, but I'd be shocked if the iconic ones were just dropped (Nook, Isabelle, etc.) I feel like Shrunk could possibly be dropped because even though he unlocks the whole emoticon shebang, to my knowledge he isn't that popular of a character when compared to other NPCs, but whatever the case may be I sincerely hope not lol I personally liked him a lot. It'd be pretty cool to see a new NPC or two in the new game as well. I'm really hoping for more hairstyles and more variants of things, if anything, but on topic: I don't think any NPCs we've grown to love will be removed. I think the game devs know we'd riot over that kind of thing lmao but in all seriousness, they're just too popular with the game audience to just remove.

First of all, I don't think they would ever go back to being a regular citizen. Even if they did, they would almost certainly keep public works projects. If they are going to give us a direct downgrade from New Leaf, then I might as well just keep playing New Leaf.

As for characters being removed, this is not an unprecedented occurrence. The few I can name off the top of my head are Farley and Serena. Their function just wasn't consequential enough to make their departure particularly negative.

I am almost completely certain that they would never remove major characters like Tom Nook. They are simply too iconic. Any character that has been in every game so far will almost certainly return, with one possible exception. I have seen a prediction that Tortimer may not be a part of this game, with a hint that he may have passed away during the time between this game and New Leaf. It is possible this may be what happened to Frillard from City Folk as he was fairly old and Shrunk mentions missing him in New Leaf. As for other characters, I could see Kapp'n's family being cut out. I think it is more likely than not that they will remain, but I don't think the game would suffer too much without them. Especially Leila, she's just really irritating.

They'd never remove a character with as much of an out of Animal Crossing presence that Isabelle has. She's got plushes, figurines, Amiibo, a Mario Kart appearance, a Smash Bros appearance. If there's anyone who's going to be safe, it'll be her.

Pretty sure they would never remove Isabelle from the games, especially since
she's so popular that they put her in games such as Mario Kart and Super Smash
Bros. She even has her own Twitter account (or at least she runs it) and I would
go so far and say that she somehow become the mascot of Animal Crossing. Even
if the player wouldn't become the mayor again in the new game, they would just
give her a new job, maybe even turn her into the new mayor.

In general, I guess they wouldn't remove characters such as Tom Nook, Timmy and
Tommy, Resetti, Redd, Mable and Sable or K.K. Slider because they are way too long
part of the AC universe and too beloved (more or less) by the fans that they would
exclude them from future games. It could be that maybe NPCs that didn't had such
a big role in New Leaf may be shown less, but not getting completely removed. Maybe
they could also getting more attention by getting a new role which makes them important
for the game.

Sure, it could be that maybe characters are getting removed, we don't what
Nintendo's plans are and how the new game is. As for now, I think we are going
to see all NPCs we had in NL again, maybe some of them more or less and maybe
even with new roles.

doubtful, although lottie might give isabelle a run for her money and become the staple character of the switch title. i just feel like she’ll have a bigger role since the announcement did take place in Nooks Homes. just a thought though

Katie's role is pretty unique, so I can't imagine her being replaced by an existing character.
It could be possible she's replace by something new, or a new character?

I don't see why they would remove NPC characters. If anyone is going to leave the party, it's the bottom tier villagers to make room for new one. Leaving villagers out in a new game has been done before and I'm pretty sure not all will make it to the new game.

I think the only villagers at risk of being removed in this game are Welcome Amiibo exclusives, such as the Sanrio and Nintendo villagers. Wild World was the only game with a mass villager purge, and that was likely due to data limits.

Maybe Nintendo would actually do that, but I see no reason for them to remove ordinary villagers. People are still upset about villagers like Meow and Sunny, who weren't even in a North American release. Imagine the reaction if something similar happened today.

Lmao, they are never removing their precious little angle that is Isabelle.

It's very unlikely they'll ever remove Isabelle. She's basically the face of AC and has appearances in other games including Smash and Mario Kart.

Besides, she isn't the mayor. She'd probably be the new mayor's secretary or I could see her have a similar role as in HHD in placing facilities like the School.

Kicks will stay because he runs the shoe store and will be integrated somehow.

I could see Leif being left out.
