Cheer up everyone!

i’m a bit worried but i find comfort in the fact that we don’t know everything yet and that there will be updates in the future - i just can’t see them cutting a bunch of features in a game that is supposed to grant us more creative freedom

Seeming as it’s the same team for splatoon, they’re good with updates adding to the game

I'm not too worried. The team is pretty up-to-date on player demands (they did Splatoon, and the sequel added different pants besides the shorts, different hairstyles, playable Octolings, etc.) and they added a lot of QoL improvements people wanted after NL was lacking in those departments- making the choosing where their houses go thing seems optional, so any diehard purists that like an organic experience still have a choice in the matter. Who says they won't listen to the concerns and talk about them being added in, or even just add them onto the day one patch? We don't know. Nobody does, not even the dataminers. You can't datamine an update that's not in yet.
I strongly doubt it's going to be that bad, if there are things that're actually gone for good. We've had no evidence that the team wants to entirely get rid of old favorite characters or items. Everyone is jumping to the worst possible conclusion because Twitter and other sites like saying everything is going to be bad and there's absolutely no other way it can go, even if they've never played a single Animal Crossing prior and don't know things have been removed before.
It's good to critique and theorize. It's not good to obsess over something possibly turning out bad with not much evidence pointing to it turning out bad. The idea of the team suddenly going full Pocket Camp for a mainline title is very bizarre too, almost all of the player feedback addons I mentioned for Splatoon 2 were free, besides Octo Expansion, which was an entire single player campaign that added on a lot more than the base game's single player, along with gear and playable Octos, but that's off-topic.

Just in case you need a refresher on what's been removed before:
Morning Aerobics (present in Population:Growing/GameCube, gone for every other installment)
Acorn Festival (present in Wild World, not added in future games, replaced by Halloween)
Farley/Fountain Gnome (present in Population: Growing/Gamecube, removed after his first appearance)
Frillard (present in City Folk, absent from New Leaf)
Kaitlin (Katie's mom, if you don't remember. Present in Wild World and City Folk, removed from New Leaf)
Serena/Fountain Goddess (basically exclusive to City Folk)
The City (also exclusive to City Folk)
Most of Wild World's not-real life holidays and festivals, actually. La-Di-Day, Yay Day and Bright Nights have never reappeared, to name a few.

I do feel people are overreacting. We've seen only 2 weeks worth of content. Not a single reviewer has even showed a Nook's store upgrade past Nook's Cranny.

In Wild World for example, we didn't see Harriet (Shampoodle) until we had Nookington.

As seen with New Leaf,
No one got Brewster at the start.
No one got Harriet at the start.

Wild World didn't have Rover, so if he is missing from New Horizon, so what?

Things to keep in mind, some characters get replaced, it's going to happen, and we all have to accept that. For example, Joan has been replaced by her granddaughter. That's the way it is. Even Tortimer has been replaced to some extent by Isabelle.

Another thing, just because we're potentially getting DLC at a future date does not mean they are selling us an unfinished game.

One thing is for certain, anyone calling this game unfinished or fearing that this "dlc" will be lost to time at some point have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. These content updates that people keep calling DLC isn't DLC, they are updates. Patches, if you will. They are treating this game and its content just like they did Splatoon 2, the only difference is that we know what isn't there yet.

I have a lot of optimism. It makes sense not to release everything all at once. Thanks to DLC and updates we have today, Nintendo can easily surprise us with ANYTHING at any given time. And I really think this is being done to discourage time traveling on launch.

Let's say for example it takes you 3 weeks MINIMUM to, say, upgrade Nook's Cranny to the next best store (it evades my mind atm). 2 weeks and 4 days from the date the game was released, Nintendo sneaks a small update in ADDING that next best store. This makes it so time travelers can't spoil anything from day 1 of the game, and updates in time for those who have been playing daily since release to it's full potential to have the opportunity to upgrade Nook's Cranny!

They're likely doing this for a multitude of reasons. I'm confident this game will give us SO much to do and SO many goals to shoot for. I just can't believe everyone was so excited a couple weeks ago and now that all of this information is coming out (likely unfinished info; remember there's a patch today for day 1) they're changing their tune and being so negative about the game. Like the title says, cheer up everyone!

The thing is the game got datamined and in the game itself as it is now there is only one expansion for the shops and we got only the npcs we saw in the direct. Also some beloved furniture like the rococo set is actually not in the game. This are facts now. So I want to say people should stay calm because of future updates ^^ Of course some NPCs and stuff will be cut... but the game is lacking more than just a few NPCs as of now and this has nothing to do with the content we saw so far. No we got prove through datamining.

I think a lot of stuff will come through updates like you guys said the splatoon treatment :) I am positive we will get a wonderful game! Even if we havn't a Brewester or a Harriet!

I'm very cheerful, very much looking forward to the game and the Negative Nancies are not bringing me down. Oh, at all.

If Kapp'n isn't in, or never comes in in the future I'm burning my Switch

(would be weird to add a staple character in as an update rather than in the actual main game)

TBH, Nintendo might have intentionally cut stuff out so they could add it back in during the Day 1 update. Why? To prevent it from being leaked, and to also have surprises that the reviewers won't be able to see. Nintendo has been having major problems with leaks in their games, so I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing stuff to combat that.

That very thing you mentioned about only 1 Nook upgrade made me think about that.

That's quite unnecessarily hyperbolic, don't you think?

We have a fixed dock location on the map that isn't by Dodo Airlines and its fairly long too. I would assume an update/Patch would place Kapp'n here.

That makes sense, but that would be a huge update. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

So ready to burn my switch, I'm rubbing some sticks together as we speak

It would, but I noticed they're making the update available for digital pre-loaded people 3 hours before the game is available to play. 3 hours in advance is a long time for modern broadband, so it makes me wonder.

I'm really sad to hear about Brewster because the cafe has been one of my favourite parts of the game in both WW and NL.

Since they allow extra downloads for things like holidays and updates etc it isn't impossible for things like that to be included later in the game, so I'm keeping my hopes up!

NOOOO! Brewster! </3 (at least K. K. is still there) I have found out that I will not be able to get it for another month after it comes out:(:(:(. BUT! I started AC: City Folk, waiting for it to come out and for when I can buy it. So, I will stay calm the best I can.

I'm not letting my heart break just yet. I have some faith.

Im getting a physical copy, if I can even collect it, so on top of the 3 hour (?!?) update i wonder how long it'll all take!
